DR strings!

I tried DR tite fit strings on my McCarty last night. They feel like they are broken in from the start...kind of cool. For new strings, they feel like they have been on the guitar for a week. They are not as tight as other brands, and bend and play great. I am noticing a slight increase in fret buzz because they don't have the tension of the GHS Boomers or others. These are round core and not the standard hex core so they are more plyable, do not require bending to get the slack out....stay in tune great, and play nice. DR also claims this design gives a wider frequency response and a slightly brighter and more articulate tone. The jury is still out as to whether I will keep them. I had to adjust my style because I usually play pretty hard. My LP takes 11-54, but I may try a DR set 11-56 since they don't have quite the tension. Mind you, it is a slight difference but they feel nice and play very well.
I also like the DR allows you to order cstom gauge sets through any dealer. They also use special packaging designed to prevent corrosion and this combined with the design apparently helps them last a long time. I'll see. They are kind of neat because I can go with heavier gauages while retaining playability.

Anyone else a DR guy?

Re: DR strings!

I had them on my 7 string at one point.... they were 10's though. Now I use dimarzio 52-12's with an 80 for the low A. DRs are nice strings. They last a good long while... I don't remember them having a lighter feel though. They did feel rounder and smoother.

I've been looking for somewhere that sells singles in that sorta size, where do you get them from?

(off-topic a bit, sorry)

Re: DR strings!

I like Pure Blues strings but the Tite Fits made my colon clench. :19:

Long Live D'addario!! :headbang:

Re: DR strings!

DR Hi-Beams for me! They seem to be slinkier in feel and brighter in tone. I dig that because I put them on my Mahogany guitars. Beautiful match!

I want to try their Black Beauty Coated strings. Maybe DR will be the first to make a GOOD coated electric guitar string. Who knows? :)

Re: DR strings!

I've been using DR Pure Blues 11-50 strings on all of my electrics for several years. I don't see myself trying any other strings either.

Re: DR strings!

I used to use Pure Blues strings but then my local store only had tight fits one day. I tried the tight fits, but I still think I'm hooked on the Pure Blues.

DR's are the only strings I have stayed with through all these years. I've tried so many other brands on my tele, but only one brand on my Ibanez. I think I'm going to try DR's on my Tele, and once the Schecter Comes in (Friday), I'll be popping some DR's on that too.

Although I would like to try a set of Ernie Ball's again...

Re: DR strings!

I've really been taken with the Elixir Acoustic string so much that I've thought about trying them on my electrics also. The DR's seem really interesting. I may pick up a pack or 2 of both, and A/B them. Thanks for the review.

Re: DR strings!

The DR's were the first strings that I tried that really ARE different. Everything else seemed to be the same old, same old...

Re: DR strings!

I started with D'addarios 9's on my Parker Nitefly, then went on to Ernie Balls and then tried DR strings. The Ernie's didn't do much for me. The DR's seemed thicker and had more tension. They're nice but I just went back to D'addrios and I'm very happy. I think they are suited to the Parker Nitefly and my style. They don't last quite as long, but I like the feel and the sound while they are fresh.

Re: DR strings!

The thing that is nice but can be bad depending on preference is that the DRs feel softer and broken in...like they have been on the guitar for a while.
The round core gives the softer feel.

I really like D'Addario but they don't offer custom sets like DR and GHS so I stick with these.
