Dramatic Volume Loss Rolling Back Volume Knob?

Hey everybody, I recently bought a loaded pickguard with the Seymour Duncan Everything Axe Set. First, I want to say that I love the sound of the pickups and every position sounds great. My question is about the volume drop when rolling back the volume knob because I have to keep the volume all the way up. If I so much as even nudge it down even a hair the volume dramatically cuts. This is the first pickup set I've ever had that does this and I'm wondering is this typical with this set?

You're volume knob is audio taper but I'm guessing you are used to linear taper. It's intended to clean up better when playing into a higher gain amp.

This shouldn't be the case at all. My guess is that there is an issue with the pot itself. Where did you get it? Any chance you can exchange it?

I sent an email describing it to the fellow that built it for me. I’ll see what he has to say. It sounds great so it’s not a huge deal I’m just surprised it’s gotta be turned up on 10 al

Even an audio taper pot isn't going to drop volume as dramatically as you are describing.

You can wait to here from the guy that sold it to you, but in any case, something is wrong. You could try replacing the pot with a new one and see if that takes care of it. It might also be a good idea to take a few pics of your wiring so we can see if there is something obvious that we can see.

yeah, that doesnt sound right. i mean, your volume control should lower the output, but not that drastically. good, clear, details pics will help

Well, I've tried that set, in a wired pickguard, and it behaves like it is supposed to: the volume taper is smooth. So there must be a reason it is acting like an off/on switch. My guess is a overheated pot.
