Guys i got my DS1 MIJ today in mail,so i quickly hooked it up to my pedal board, the chain goes like
TU 2=RMC3=Metal Muff=Jekyll & Hyde=Memory man=Small clone=Holy grail=DS1
As soon i hooked Ds1 in the chain i have no sound,i took it off and everything is fine.I tried DS1 by itself and it works great,as soon its in the chain i loose all the sound.WTF.
Any clue guys????:argh:

Re: Ds 1 Gurus Please Help Figure This One Out

Why is it at the end of the chain? It's going to sound bad there. You don't want to distort a time-based effect signal (delay, reverb). Put the DS-1 before that stuff.

Put a battery in and see if works in the chain that way. If it does, your power supply doesn't have enough milliamps for it all. Get a Visual Sound One-Spot.

Re: Ds 1 Gurus Please Help Figure This One Out

i thought i'll adjust its position after i test it,the power supply i think is kool as i'm using SKB pedal board PS 45 and its giving 100 ma per output.Furthermore when i tried to use it by itself i used the same power plug(from the pedal board).

Re: Ds 1 Gurus Please Help Figure This One Out

100ma per plug but what about the total handling of the whole board? If you max that out, you're not going to get that 100ma anymore. Just a thought.

Check your patch cables too. Could be as simple as that.

tried 3 different patch cables nothing worked darn it i dont have any batteries

That's right. But I do like the way other overdrive, distortion and fuzz devices sound plugged into the DS-1. For example, the DS-1 improves the tone of a Big Muff, IMO, when the Big Muff is plugged into the DS-1.

Remove it and put that one that's in your DS-1 on your tongue and see if it has any juice. That's how I do it.

Ok, then go about it this way. Plug in to the DS-1, verify it works. Plug in another pedal in front, verify it works, then another, then another, until you get nothing. This is going to be one of those process of elimination scenarios.

Yup, I agree. Mod OD-1 spec'd SD-1 in front of the DS-1 sounds really good. Adds just enough kick to it and I run that SD-1 with the level all the way up and drive all the way down. Since it's modded to OD-1 specs, the tone control is totally disconnected from the circuit. I'm thinking about adding a fat switch in it's place.

Erik, how do your mods compare to Keeley's and John Spina's?

Erik, how do your mods compare to Keeley's and John Spina's?

They're different and usually a culmination of other mods out there with my own little preferences here and there.

For example, the latest DS-1 mods I did were from Brian Wampler of indyguitarist.com. He did an article on DS-1 mods in the Feb issue of Premier Guitar magazine. I did the JCM 800 mod he shared minus the diode changes (because I like the combo I have) and I changed an additional resistor to increase the mids.

On the SD-1 to OD-1 specs, I sat with both schematics and noted the differences, then went about and made the changes to a brand new SD-1. Right now it sounds about 90% to what the original quad opamp OD-1 sounds like.

I've never heard John's mods before and I haven't compared what I've done to Keeley. There's so many mods out there now that it boils down more to what you prefer. Like aftermarket pickups, someone's interpretation of the perfect PAF is going to be different than the next guy and the next guy.

You'd like John's mods Erik. You and I share similar tastes which leads me to believe you'd like John's mods. The DS-1 he sent me to try had more bass and a little more overdrive. I liked it alot but still prefer my un-modded mij DS-1 to anything else I;ve tried. I had a Keeley modded DS-1 for a while. I think it had his "Seeing I" mod. It was so long ago I don't remember much about it. I liked it...but I liked my stock mij DS-1 better.

Knowing me, I'd disect what he's done if I tried one...LOL. I've done the Keeley Seeing Eye mod before - an older one anyway that was available online on his site. It was OK. Nice for leads but I didn't like it so much for rhythm. I'm real happy with how I have mine sounding now. I can use it as a standalone distortion through a clean amp no problem. Through the Twin model on my Valvetronix it's really nice, adds another setting to my rig for live use. Funny how we do have similar tastes and yet play totally different styles.

Don't feel bad. The other guitarist in my band has that pedalboard and has done the same thing before now that you mention it.
