DS-1 mod?

I have heard several people taking about Boss DS-1 modification so i wonder, what is exactly "wrong" with the pedal?

I saw a blues band yesterday and after the show i'd stop and talk to the guitarist and he had a Modified DS-1, stupid as i am, i didn't ask what was modified. :butkick:

What I've always loved about a DS-1 is that I can adjust it so I can turn the volume knob of my Tele or Strat down to about 3 or 4 and get a completely clean rock tone for chords and quiet passages, and then raise the volume of my guitar until I get a very overdriven tone for soloing. All without ever turning the pedal off.

But some players want more bass and more distortion for heavier rock styles and a DS-1 modded like that is fun to play through too.

However, both modded DS-1's I have tried lost the ability to get a clean sound when I
turn the volume knob of the guitar way down...

So for that reason I prefer my DS-1 unmodded.

the mods basically add fatness, harmonic content, and gain by using different component values of higher quality
