The DS-1 sounds sharper than the DS-2's Turbo I mode. If you like the DS-1 but would want something smoother, the DS-2 does it, but the DS-1's tones are more variable. The DS-1's tone knob is more dramatic across the whole spectrum. The DS-2's Turbo II mode adds volume and lots of midrange, but not too much extra fuzziness.

Didn't Kurt Cobain start using DS-2 (on I setting) when they came out because they were the same as DS-1's on that setting.

I totally agree with 'baritone'. I'll add that (in my rig) mode 2 take takes away alot of the fuzziness. There is also a good a amount of bass in the DS-2, the DS-1 sounds trebly and harsh to me.

:werd: I have an MIJ DS-2. Mode I is much, much smoother than a DS-1. Good for a crunch backup channel, but in my case doesn't blend well with the amp drive. Mode II can be a tiny bit harsh in my setup and has less sustain, but it cuts more because of the mids.

I used to use a DS-2, i hated the turbo boost thing. It just added a bunch of treble. To me the 1st setting sounded a bit like the ds-1. I'm not fond of the the DS-1 at all. I hate that fizzy distortion. However, the keeley mod for the ds-1 is great. Totally different sounding pedal.

I read a magazine article with his technician which said that some time after they recorded "Bleach", he broke his DS-1, which he preferred. When the technician went to find a replacement at the store, they only had the DS-2 in stock, so he had to convince Kurt that it was just as good.
