Is the JCM 2000 DSL a 50 or a 100? If it's a 50 and you don't need the extra volume of the 100 you could save yourself some money when it's time to change the power tubes (2 instead of 4). I have a JCM 2000 DSL 50 and it's the loudest amp I've ever owned - can't imagine needing more volume!

I just bought a JCM 2000 DSL and I wish it was 50 watts instead of 100, the thing is freaking loud. I love the two different gain stages in the DSL and the cleans are amazing. I know very little about the other two amps and was a Marshall noob before buying the JCM. I got a lot of advice on my purchase from the guys here. These guys know their stuff listen to them, also try to ignore the "noise" that creeps into some of these threads.
It took me 3 months to digest everything and pull the trigger. I am glad I waited and researched, so far I have been more than happy with my purchase. I get to play it with a full band next week, I can't wait to let it rip.

Yes, just make sure you halve the impedance on the selector. (e.g. if you normally used the 16ohm tap, drop it to 8)
EDIT: I should've added it won't make it that much more quieter (like some would expect going 50 from 100... it must be half as loud, right? not exactly).

I'd pick the DSL over the TSL any day of the week. I had a TSL for about 1.5 years and tried to sell it multiple times, finally someone took it off my hands. Just didn't jive with it, the DSL has much better gain structure and better cleans. Also the fact that DSL's are still in production should raise a flag somewhere, they are the longest running Marshall amp in production. Whether you want 100w or less is up to you, but stick to DSL over TSL.
Also I would advise you to stick to the JCM2000 DSL as that was made in England, the new DSL series are made overseas, perhaps China?

The DSL-100H I own was assembled in Vietnam, no quality issues to date....

I have the 40C its made better besides the wood, power tubes are chassis mounted and less PCB boards and cable ribbons. The old ones look like computer inside!

New or old DSL is a matter of preference. The new models seem to have better balance between the two channels and easier to get the two to work together with the same eq. The master resonance is an improvement over the originals.
The older versions have better iron, and I do think they sound richer. Even the most recent 1923 (?) UK made combo, sounds better than the dsl40. Maybe not twice as much... as the cost would have you believe, but they do have a bit more complexity.
That said, the new el34 powered DSLs sound very good, and are great bang for the buck. The little 5w is not bad but apparently unreliable, and the 15w just sounds Lackluster.
The TSL. That amp is way down on my list Marshalls I'd like to own. in fact, it is one of the few high end Marshalls that I think less of than the 900 Dual Reverb.

I think for the money, the DSL 40c is almost unbeatable. I admit the speakers are not my thing but they are budget celestions and can be easily replaced. Tone wise it sounds good. I cant vouch for the build quality. I have never opened one up. I have played them many times and after owning a Silver Jubilee in the 80's I can tell you guys that hauling a 40c is easier then a half stack. I can hear the difference between the 40c and the higher end Marshalls but its not significant and I don't think the audiance would even notice unless they are die hard Musicians themselves and with a few effects on the signal you will have an even harder time hearing much of a difference in a club as opposed to putting them side by side in a dry signal test. Yes a half stack sounds better. Cranked it really does but again unless your playing out somewhere where you can crank it I think the 40c with its 40 and 20 watt options makes a very usable amp that sounds good up to a certain stage size. At its price range you can gig the hell out of it and let it take a beating. I'd save my best stuff for premium gigs and recording.

Favorite Marshalls: DSL50, Vintage Modern, JTM45, DSL401, Bluesbreaker 212, 1987-watt combo, some JCM800s with EL-34s. No particular order to these.
I still prefer my Mark Series Mesas, but I have zero problems rockin' one of these!

I have The TSL100 and I love the thing I am just not crazy about the clean channel it is a lifeless turd. I run a Cantrell Wah into a old ts-9 and also have a os-2 which is the overdrive and a distortion in the same pedal to give it kick in the front end, but manly just the ts-9 with little gain and full volume, and give it a proper kick in the nuts. through the loops I run various modulation, delays, reverbs and most important ISP decimater 2 to tame the wild beast. for axes I use a EBMM Luke 3 hb-s-s, Gibson Les Paul with the 490t and I think a 498. and a ESP Custom Horizon with a JB and 59. You can really tell the difference with single coils and adjusting the volume of the Luke, it's like a damned swiss army knife of a tone palette. anything from soft to melt all right there. Now it did take some experimentation to find the elusive sound but it is in there, just have to look. just My 3 cents (can do it all with My kemper but I do not)

I had a TSL60 and wasn't really a fan of it. It did metal tones really well, but that was about all. I was using a handful of pedals to get the sounds that I wanted until I dumped it and got a Mesa Roadster. I've since moved on the the Road King, but I didn't really need to, the Roadster was perfect for my needs.
