Here goes a picture of the guitar - http://www.zuitar.com/Image/101534-230_GF.html
So my brother-in-law goes to prison and my sister gives me his guitar; this Glen Frey signature Rickenbacker 230gf. Good God this thing was a mess. Apparently he never played it, but left it sitting out of its case. All hardware was loose and just plain dirty.
It’s playable, but the strings buzz – bad. I’m checking the relief via a capo on the first fret, holding down the last fret and sliding (or attempting to) a .005 feeler gauge between the high E string and the 7th fret and there is no clearance there. I’ve read that Rics’ necks aren’t like other guitars’ necks when it comes to adjustment, that it’s best to keep the necks straight as possible, but I still think this thing needs some relief.
This thing has two truss rods, which I have not dealt with before, but I plan to start now. I’ll not be taking this guitar to a tech, as after playing for many years I’ve decided to quit fooling around and just do my own guitars and I do well actually, I just would like to know the best way to go about this thing before I go any further. I’ve read about other Rics that have dual rods where each one adjusts one half of the neck. Which one should I adjust do you think, or should I do both in relation to each other? How long do you think it would take for the neck to respond, as I don’t think it’s ever been adjusted?
Anyway I may post this at the Ric forum, but since I’ve been hanging out here thought I’d ask. Many thanks in advance.
