Dulling nickel grovers?

I got nickel grovers installed on my les paul and I was curious if there is a way I can take out that shinniness new grovers have. I wanted to put aged gold grovers on that just look like nickel with a gold hue to it but I couldn't find those any where...And no seafoamer, I don't think I can piss on them this time... :laugh2:

Ferrous Chloride which I belive is sold at Radio Shack...but be warned it will age them quite a bit pretty fast...unless you want the reliced just dab it on with a Q-tip...and be careful...you have been warned! Good luck

I think the nickel will dull with use and time. It never seems to maintain the lustre of chrome. But I guess that's part of the attraction with it.

Ferrous Chloride which I belive is sold at Radio Shack...but be warned it will age them quite a bit pretty fast...unless you want the reliced just dab it on with a Q-tip...and be careful...you have been warned! Good luck

is this acid? it won't leave those weird rainbows will it? and does it 'eat' away the metal or just lose the shine?

It is an etching solution used in the making of PCBs, it's nasty stuff too.
*Eating away* is exactly what it does. Never heard of it for this application, interesting.

Why not just scrub away with some steel wool instead? Put them in a cloth sack with some BBs or screws and slam away! Viola! Instant Relic!

another forum brother here used is to relic metal parts on a guitar he did several years ago, it turned out very nice

Try crest tooth-paste. When I was in band I learned that crest will file down metal. We had to use it on out slides to get them to slide easier. Just put a dab on your finger and go at it and it should dull it. If it doesn't that must be some good stuff.

I'd get a close up picture of an old humbucker (or an old humbucker!) and copy the wear with 0000 steel wool. Pay special attention to the way the strings affect the wear pattern and copy it. Lew
