Dumb question about bass compression

What makes a compressor good for bass? I feel like clean blend is essential for bass OD/Distortion, so you don't lose your low end, is that the same for compression? I like the attack of a compressor on bass, and I like how it gives you consistent volume for whole note passages, etc. like for slow blues.

If I was looking for a little mini compressor would the Xotic SP or Wampler mini Ego work due to the clean blend, or is there something else required out of a bass compressor that isn't needed for guitar?

Re: Dumb question about bass compression

Yeah, I think compression is great for someone with uneven attacks or, slap stuff which is 20x louder than a regular bass line. As someone who is not a bassist, but plays bass, a good bass compressor with a clean blend knob has the best of both worlds when used so you can barely hear (but feel) it working.

Re: Dumb question about bass compression

Multi-band compression is desirable on bass guitar. Otherwise, when you slam the lowest string, all frequencies are compressed by the same amount.
