Dumb question - which color is hot?

I have a Jerry Donahue Tele pickup that has a braided yellow and braided black wire. Which color is the ground and which is hot? Or does it matter?

Still a little unsure.

I'm doing the Esquire Eldred mod wiring if that matters.

They can't both be braided aka shielded.

To find the hot lead connect the wires from you pup to the two leads of your multimeter on the DC miliamp lowest setting. Tap the lugs with a screwdriver. If the needle jumps to the right the you've got the positive lead from your multimeter connected to the positive lead of your pup & yes it matters..Cheers

Is one of them connected to the baseplate? If so that's ground.
