will it sound good? i already bought the 59 and i want to get a custom custom since i think it will be alot clearer (yet at the same time chunky) than the duncan custom. i am putting these things in a gibson les paul standard

thoughts?

yup - sounds like a great combo .. especially if the brigde position of this guitar has prone to be 'toppy' ... CC will likely round it nicely - still enough punch though

and the 21 day guarantee means that if you dont dig it, you get to try something else !!

rock on!

cheers

I don't like mixing an alnico 5 mag with a 2 mag. I prefer to keep them the same. My Strat has a PGn which sounds good on it's own but get losts when used together with the 59b.

Does the 59 bridge have a lower resistance reading than the PG? Hit it with you meter and check it out.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with mixing A2 and A5 magnet pickups! It seems like you may have a different issue going on.

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

It's not a resistance problem. A 59 has more high end then a PG. I use the middle position alot and on my Tele (set of 59's) it sounds right. When I play my Strat, it doesn't work for me. The PGn really does sound good, but I prefer alnico V pickups. Plus, I always hated how guys in the 80's put Super Distortions in the bridge of their LP's and when I'd try them, the bridge would always overpower the neck pickup. The same reason I don't like H-S-S Strat's. I like my pickups to match sonically.

A 59 has more high end than a PG? Sorry, but I disagree. The PG is known for having more top end sizzle. It could be the lowered mids of the 59 that make the highs appear to be more but the PG has more. The 59b is a tad hotter than a PGn but the PGb is a tad hotter than the 59b.

I've matched a CC/Jazz combo in a LP and a Strat nicely with barely any difference at all. The just work together for me.

i have 59/CC in one of my pauls and it rips! turning the vol. down to 6-7 on the 59 and the CC vol. at 10 when both are on= sweet/fat rythm with good punch.then switching to CC only for lead stuff and switching to 59 for thick butter solos.if you wire the CC for split coil it sound very good also!IMO.good luck.

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

I did it - sounded pretty good. I would be careful with the CC, it can be too middy and fat sometimes.

The mix of the pups is really sweet!

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

It's pretty hard to dislike the CC/59 in almost any guitar, but it works great in Pauls.

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

The only thing better than the 59/CC is of course, the PG/CC!!!!!!!!!!! I hope I'm not too late!!!!!

Saladin - 59 more top than PG???? I'm with ErikH on that...High's, low to high: A2P. 59, PG

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

alright thanks guys!

just another question: would the CC be comparable to the burstbucker pros but with more crunch? i love the burstbuckers but i could use a little more punch to them.

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

The CC is a completely different animal from the Burstbuckers. The CC has more mids, thicker highs, and spongey lows.

would the cleans still sound good?

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

Yep. I love the cleans that the CC puts out when combined with the neck pickup.

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

+1 Benj-A CC/PG mix can get an awesome array of tones simply by using volume and tone teeks. I think the two compliment each othr very well. Usually I'm neck or brdige guy - but on that axe I use all three combo's!

And I think it crunches quite nicely - just not super-tite.

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

my Ibanez SZ320 used to sport the 59/CC combo but i have replaced the former with an AIIP for an absolutely sweet performance :rambo:

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

59/CC in my Strat is awesome. 59 handles clean and bass-heavy stuff, CC handles crunchy mid-heavy gain stuff.

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

Hello!

I´m new here to the forum and need some help!

I´m thinking about replacing the bridge pu in my Les Paul. It´ s a SH-1 and I love that twangy near Telecaster sound of it but the bass response is a little to weak.

In this forum here I stumbled over the C5 and now I wonder if this pu would be the solution. I´m a little afraid that the Custom Custom or the SH-5 would change the sound to much. The clean sound is very important to me too. I want to keep this special sound of the SH-1 but just with more bottom.

Would you recommend the SH-14? Or is the CC better?

Re: duncan '59 at the neck, duncan custom custom at the bridge: good idea?

I would say it's more based on the style(s) of music you are playing with it, but that's just me.
