This is my first post. thought I'd get my feet wet. Can anyone tell me the closest SD production model to a 59 with a2 mags ?

Re: Duncan 59n with a2 mag

If you want an A2 bucker for the neck, go with a pearly gates. Really fantastic pickup all around.

edit: Although I can't tell you if it sounds like a '59 with A2 in it, i figure it would have it's own sound, seeing as it's a different wind than the PGn (or the Seth and A2P for that matter)

Re: Duncan 59n with a2 mag

Thanks for the reply.I have an alnico 2 pro (PG mod) neck and pearly gates in bridge of my washburn wi67 sounds great. just wondered how much diff a 59 a2 would sound.

Re: Duncan 59n with a2 mag

Welcome! It sounds most like an A2Pro, since they're both A2 & symmetrically wound, but it doesn't sound exactly like it.

Re: Duncan 59n with a2 mag

Thanks, I switched mags in a couple cc and 59s to get c5s. still have the 59 a2s. I probably will save these for another guitar if they sound a lot like the alnico 2 pro (pg mod) I have in the neck. Saves me from changing a pickup thats sounds close to what I have now.

Re: Duncan 59n with a2 mag

okay, I thought you meant pearly gates modification, which is why I was confused. my bad.

Re: Duncan 59n with a2 mag

I haven't tried it in a while, but the A2 59 is woodier, more articulate, and has a boxy (in a good way) midrange that the APHn doesn't exhibit. I put one in my LP and I loved comping or playing jazzy lead lines with it.

Re: Duncan 59n with a2 mag

Thanks' Now I'm thinking maybe I should try it in place of the a2pro. I'll reverse the mag as I really like the out of phase tone. Ahh the quest for the ulimate tone.
