hi,
i had never been a duncan fan, but in my long search of the perfect tone, i bought a duncan texas hot for the bridge of my strat (masterbuilt 54).
i bought it, because the bridge of my fralin vintage hot, wasn't enough "rock n roll".
and wwwooooooowww, i absolutly fall in love, with this warm strat pickup.
it is all i want.
now it is time to change my mind and to try other duncan antiquity.
so i own a james trussart steelcaster wich have arcane pickups.
wich dunacn antiquity will give my something like the texas hot strat , but with the tele specificities?

thanx

ps:sorry for the "frenchy" english

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

arno,

congratulations ... those Trussarts are pretty cool

I know that those used to come with Duncans -- I think they were Duncan Antiquities. However, the Antiquity tele bridge is a vintage spec pickup, NOT a somewhat hotter tone like the strat Antiquity Custom bridge.

I'm going to suggest a Jerry Donohue for the bridge, which has alnico 2 magnets, but is wound for a little fatter tone than the Antiquity.

Another alternative woud be to contact the Custom Shop, and tell them what you want. They should be able to wind something very similar in tone to the strat bridge pickup you like, as well as a matching neck pickup.

GOOD CALL!

The Jerry Donohue is a fatter pickup that a standard Tele lead coil much like the Antiquity Custom Bridge is a fatter pickup than a standard strat bridge pickup. Plus both are Alnico II and both with have that warm soft character.

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

just a precision, i particulary like the texas hot stdt not the custom one.
i don't need over-output

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

arno,

Trussart uses Duncan Antiquities as an option in those.
That's a great set of pickups.

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

I don't know how well liked they are but I put a Broadcaster in my Esquire and it's quite fat and has a load of attitude.

I'm thinking of building a fat Tele with a Seth Lover I have and might use the Broadcaster in it too.

Good luck in your search.

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

if you really like the normal texas hot bridge pup (6.6k or so, not the 9k custom bridge model) then i would suggest the antiquty tele lead. alnico II vintage wind tele pup. the jd is a great pup and my favorite from the regular line but the antiquity stuff is the best non custom shop stuff ive ever played.

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

thanx for your interest to my search, i will try a duncan antiquity for the begining

I'm in agreement with the direction that all the guys here are going in regards to this thread. #1 Being that the Antiquity Texas Hot Strat pup uses A2 magnets, you should definitely start with A2 magnets in a SD Antiquity Tele set. #2 As I am to understand, when the Antiquity sets don't have a "II" in the labeling, like the Antiquity Texas Hot Strat pups as an example, then the pups use A2 magnets. An Antiquity II set conversely then uses A5 magnets. A Tele Broadcaster designed pup WITHOUT the raised D and G polepieces will be "honkier" and have more mids than a 54' Bridge pup WITH the raised D and G polepieces. Not to mention that a Broadcaster designed/wound Bridge SC will have that great gutsy "classic" rock and roll tone. The Antiquity Tele version of a Broadcaster set would then be the Antiquity Tele 11024-22 Bridge pup, and the Antiquity Tele 11024-21 neck pup.

millenofx77,

Take a look at this link for Illusion Pickups. ( http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Illusion-Pickups-LLC__W0QQ_armrsZ1 ) These guys are new up and comers. They include vintage era tone caps with pup sets, vintage covers for strat sets, etc. Typically the neck and bridge tele sets will run you around $106.00 total when shipped within the U.S. The way Illusion Pickups describe their pups makes one almost believe that IP either have access to or own every 50's to 70's model Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster guitars, and reverse engineer each pup to get that "classic fender tone".

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

I use an Antiquity neck in my Tele, it was actually 7.9K, a little hotter than expected, but it sounds SO MUCH like the old school Tele blues tones we all know and love....I say it was worth every dollar. Clean, it's the epitome of buttery Telecaster twang, right up around the 9th-10th frets it gets a slight edge to it but remains creamy. dirty, it's chunky and throaty. It matches well with my "Hot" Lead, but to be honest, I kind of wish I'd gone with the Antiquity Lead after hearing the neck.....
Nevertheless, This is a great sounding pickup.

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

8k is about right for an old school tele neck pup. they used 43 gauge wire rather than the 42 used on the bridge pup or strat pups

Re: duncan antiquity tele, need help

millenofx77, do you have the "custom bridge" version of the texas hot or a regular wind?
