Duncan Blackouts in 7 string?

I'm contemplating buying a 7 string that's loaded with Blackouts. I had an ESP EC-1000 with EMGs in it years ago. That's the only active-style pickups I have experience with. They were fine, but I much prefered the tones from a good old JB/59 combo in mohogany-bodied axes and that's mostly what I've always used (before and since).

However, I'm thinking about the 7 string because I'm with a newer band that does some newer material, including Alter Bridge and stuff like that. So I want a more modern, edgy sound. But I still want the organic pickup tones like I've always got with the JB/59 combo. What are Blackouts like compared to the EMGs? How about compared to the legacy Duncan pickups like the JB?

Thanks for the insight! :)

Re: Duncan Blackouts in 7 string?

Blackouts sound exceedingly more organic than EMGs. If you like the passive tones from your JB/59 combo, you will find the blackouts perfect for that new sound you described. on a scale of 1 to 10 of organicness EMGs being 1 and JB/59 combo being 10, blackouts are like a 6 or 7 IMO.

IMHO, the new EMG 707-x sounds more organic than the Blackout 7, it also sits better in the mix, but it´s not as modern and edgy.
