Duncan Custom or Dimarzio Super Distortion?

I've about narrowed it down to these 2 pickups to put in the bridge position of my new Epi Les Paul Standard. But I can't decide which one. I've been playing a lot of classic rock with my band lately. Bad Co., Free, ZZ Top, CCR....etc. and while I use EMG's in my Yamaha Pacifica I don't think EMG's will suit the new LP at all. Looking for more classic rock sound from this guitar. The stock bridge pickup is just anemic sounding and low output. While I don't need a super high output pickup I would like something sort of hot, because I don't use any distortion box of any kind. I like to rely on the pickup and amp (Marshall DSL 100) for my dirt. Anyone got any comments on these 2 pickups or maybe suggestions of others?

The Custom is more versatile than the Super D so, it will probally suit you better. It has more of a souped up PAF vibe that will suit your style better.

hmmm...I love 'em both, especially in a Les Paul.

But I'd take the SuperD...cleans are little better, and I find it a touch more dynamic when it's set up properly (i.e LOW)

Custom cuts a bit better for lead work, SuperD crunches better.

I'm using a Super Distortion on a Gibson Explorer and it sounds nice for Rythm but for leads, i think it should cut more.
I'm thinking about the Custom, to get more of that PAF vide whitout sounding modern..

100% agreed. The SD doesn't have quite the mids of the CC, but is stronger everywhere else. They are different pickups, so it is best to hear them.

Mmmmmm - Somthing about an LP & a Super D. Peas & Carrots, Milk & Cookies, T&A. They just go together. How bright is the LP acoustically? If it's got a little zing I would go SuperD.

But, I can't deny I generally prefer Duncan, DiMArzio's are mostly Darker, and a lot of people seem to love the Custom. Knowing what I know about the SuperD, It isn't what I'd call the most flexible pup. Tone Zone/Air Zone are better in that area for DM's.

Noone can say the SUPER DISTORTION sounds modern because it was used in the early seventies and although it is far from PAF it isnt like it is a DSITORTION or something. Listen to early david bowie or KISS to hear the SD I think it sound quite smooth but i agree when said that it might not CUT through especially under really HIGH GAIN but depends on amp settings.
