Duncan Custom to dark?

Hi guys/gals. I have a Custom in a Czech made Dean Caddy and it seems to make the guitar very dark sounding, the Custom replaced a PGb so I might just be used to that pickups voicing. The Caddy is basically the same in thickness and materials as a PRS only with an Ebony board, I do not think that this guitar should be this dark but all wood is different I guess. I see some people call the Custom a bright pickup but that is not my experience at all. Thanks in advance for your replys.

Re: Duncan Custom to dark?

The Custom is not dark, just a lot more compressed than the PG. It also has more lows, which also affects what you are hearing. If yo find the Custom too dark but still want more push than a PG, you might want to try the Screaming Demon. It's basically like a hopped up 59, but brighter and more transparent in the mids than a Custom.

Re: Duncan Custom to dark?

It has more bottom end to my ears but any lack of upper end not to make it sound dark IMO. Not as bright as a Distortion but still when I think dark pickups I think Invader or Super Distortion.

Re: Duncan Custom to dark?

I have a Custom in my LTD... Not dark at all, lots of bottom-end, lots of highs... pretty even EQ IMO.... What pots value do you have in there? 500k might be appropriate to let more highs through if you have 300 or 250....

I would check to make sure your pots are 500k pots first of all. What kind of amp and effects do you have? What wood is your guitar made out of?

Re: Duncan Custom to dark?

Thanks for the replys. I think that I am missing the open sound of the PGb, I also think that my amps voicing is darker sounding as well and the combination of the two threw me off. Thanks for the suggestions, I will check my pots and see what is in there.
