I have a guitar with these and was thinking about switching them out for the real deals---but----if the real JB/Jazz are not any better than these--I will pick some other Duncan pups------anyone ever compare the Duncan Designed to the real ones?---------:feedback: Jimo

The real Duncans are 10 times better. Always go with American-made PU's. Much better clarity, depth, and definition. In ways that defy all known manufacturing processes, Asian PU's are invariably muddy-sounding. Some combination of windings, low quality raw materials, & burying them in cheap wax.

The real JB is bright & harsh to many of us (I've tried several, in various guitars, and sold them all). There are better choices in the SD & DiMarzio lines. Look at the tone charts & read some old threads. Classic sign of a newbie is getting the JB/Jazz set. The Jazz is very good, but pair it with something better on the bridge.

Yeah I was wondering about that---this "JB" sounds weak and anemic---not what I had always heard about the Real JB. ----Thanks!----JIMO

For a high output PU, I like the Duncan SH-14 Custom 5. To get the warm blues-rock tones I like (late '60's British guitarists), I use 250K pots on the bridge to take off the extreme high end, with gives me more mids and I still have plenty of bite. If you like metal & brighter-sounding guitars, 500K's are best.

You can make the SH-14 into all kinds of things by changing magnets. The bright and tight Custom is the same PU with a ceramic; the warm Custom Custom has an A2. A4's are very nice on the bridge too, as they have the most balanced EQ. An A8 will give you a real high octane sound. Get an SH-14 & some surplus magents, and have some fun. Good chance you'll be able to get just what you want.

Re: Duncan designed JB/Jazz

First, look at the back plates to be sure they are the model that your guitar specs' tell. My jackson came with two HB-103 (Designed Distortions) instead 102-103.

Second: I bought a Distortion set to replace them. THEY WERE NOT TWO DISTORTIONS MADE FOR A KOREAN FOLLOWING THE SAME SPECS AS THE ORIGINALS. They are tiny!!! They also weights like a half. Its magnetic force is weaker than the stock cheap LTD ones. Sorry but Duncan has made a mistake with these things.

Go for nice ones.

Thanks for help guys!---The SH-14 sounds like the way to go! I will check the back side of these pups to see what they are supposed to be. thanx again!---------JIMO
