"Duncan Designed P-100"

Hi kids. Just got a Schecter Tempest Special, looks like this:

TempestBodyCloseup.jpg

The old Schecter specs I have seen online say the pickups are "Duncan Designed P-100's." Now Gibson P-100's are stacked HBs, but these DD's seem to have some some hum, which appears to be cancelled in the middle pickup position, indicating one pup is RW/RP. The shop guys where this guitar had been on consignment (I subsequently bought it directly from the owner) were similarly of the opinion that it had true single-coils like P-90's in it (they told me this AFTER it had gone off consignment, so they no longer had any motive to misrepresent it).

There's no record of DD P-100's on the SeymourDuncan.com Duncan Designed page. Does anyone know if these are stacked humbuckers like Gibson P-100's, or single coils like Gibson P-90's?

Thanks in advance!

Re: "Duncan Designed P-100"

i doubt that duncan would call anything a p100 since they has such a bad reputation.
if they hum, id assume that they are real p90's
duncan does make a p90 stack but im not sure if there is a duncan design version

Re: "Duncan Designed P-100"

The P90-1 is a stacked-coil P-90 that offers series, parallel and out-of-phase switching capabilities.

that was found under duncan designed section. in any case, i would consider replacing them, duncan design are pretty cheap versions of the real things, and are not that great.

Here is the language used in Schecter's press release of the model found on Harmony-Central:

2004 Tempest Specials Now Shipping

March 2, 2004

Redesigned for 2004, the Diamond Series Tempest Specials now feature a mahogany 'slab' body, a set-in 24 3/4" mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, 22 jumbo frets, Grover tuners and a TonePros 'locking' tune-a-matic system. Electronics consist of dual Seymour Duncan Designed P-100 pickups, two volume knobs, tone control, and 3-way pickup selector.

Three new finishes add to the Special's vintage visuals; See-Thru Cherry (STC), Tobacco 2-Tone Sunburst (2TSB) and TV Yellow (TVY). "

I know that Duncan Designed currently makes a true P-90 copy, because they come equipped on the Squier Tele Custom II. However, despite this, oddly there is no mention of a Duncan Designed single-coil P-90 version on the Duncan Designed page on SeymourDuncan.com.

Thanks, as you can see from the Schecter press release above, they were not calling it a P90-1.

Yes, I saw that.

I understand the difference between DD and USA Duncans, as I have Duncan P-90s on my USA Hamer and Jazz/JB on my Fernandes Ravelle. So far these sound OK but I just wanted to know if anyone new if these were singles or a stacked bucker because I don't wanna have to yank the pups to look.

Unlike humbuckers, I've found some inexpensive import P-90's that actually sound quite good (ceramic P-90's on my Agile SG-knockoff Valkyrie sound just fine).

That thing is beautifulll...

Obrigado!

It's a neat mixture of traditional elements of a Les Paul Special in a slightly different package. I like it, and was able to find a very nice used one with it's original hardshell Schecter case for only $250 US.
