Duncan Distortion and ??? for Agile PS-900 (for metal)

so what's a good neck pickup that'd match the DD in the bridge in an Agile PS-900? looking to buy used, double-black only....looking at Duncans, DiMarzios, Gibsons, and anything else that would work. i want a pickup for full and smooth but cutting lead tones, with decent treble, but i don't like a particularly bright pickup in the neck position. for cleans, i'm planning to mainly just use the inner coils of the pickups.

any suggestions, trade offers, places i can get something (ideally in trade), etc., let me know!

thanx

I'm going to say '59 on this one....not overly bright and cuts well and is smooth for sure.

'59 i was told might not be enough output for what i want, and might be too muddy i was told also.

anyone ever try the DiMarzio Air Norton with the DD?

59 will NOT match with a DD, and personally, I hate it in mohogany. It sounds muddy and dull to me with gain. The 59 will be too thick for the DD, the DD too thin for the 59.

The Jazz, however, would be perfect.

'59 definitely matches with a DD.....what is matching anyway....there's no rule that says it has to have the same tone as the bridge. Some people like thick sounding bridges and thinner sounding necks....some people like the opposite...some do like them to match but it's all up for debate really.

Although I find the pickup to be muddy in SOME guitars....I can't speak for everyone else's setup.

ok, good to know that about the '59. i'm all about clarity (i use Joe Bardens in a couple of my guitars...not quite what i'm looking for in this one tho)...but clarity is very important to me.

Re: Duncan Distortion and ??? for Agile PS-900 (for metal)

let me throw this in there....i want to be able to switch between pickups and not have the volume and relative output change at all, i want the transition to be extremely smooth. hard to describe, but if you heard the way i have my Ibanez set up, that guitar has it perfect (Bardens in that guitar tho)

Re: Duncan Distortion and ??? for Agile PS-900 (for metal)

The volume won't change, nor the tone to an extreme extent (IE, not super thin or thick in either direction)

Ranalli, what I meant was that if you set the amp up for the 59, the DD will sound too thin for everyone I know of, and if you set the amp up for the DD, the 59 will be too thick. By matching, I don't mean having the same or similar tones, just not hugely different. I wouldn't want a super thin pickup in the neck with a super thick one in the bridge, which is why I wouldn't through a Jazz in alder with an Invader bridge.

*Jazz Humbucker* The '59 is a great pick-up... but the jazz would be great in this situation and it is a great partner for the distortion.
