Duncan Distortion Bridge and Neck ?

Dear all,

I just got a Gibson SG Standard and I'm planning to change bridge&neck pickups. Because current pickups on the guitar don't fit my needs. I'm playing "New wave of British Heavy Metal" style mostly and I'm wondering if Duncan Distortion SH-6 ( bridge and neck versions ) helps me to meet my needs.

As an alternative, could it be Black Winter ?

Could you please share your opinions ? If you have different recommendations, I would like to receive it.

Thanks a lot,

I can't think of any reason why a Distortion set wouldn't do what you're looking for.

Normally most of the people recommends JB-Jazz or JB-59 combination for these kind of Gibsons. I have a Gibson Les Paul which has JB-Jazz configuration. Because of that I'm searchin' for a different setup for my SG.

By the way, thanks a lot for your opinion.

The Distortion would be my choice for NWBHM tones. They have more highs than the Black Winter, and less lows. To me (and I am listening to Piece of Mind when I type this), there is a lot of upper mids and highs and the idea of tight, chunky lows didn't quite happen yet. The Distortion set is the right one.

i have a distortion set in a prs se and it sounds like nwbhm to me, big ballsy tone

I think Distortion bridge is what you're looking for, it's awesome for that and 80s metal in general, but I don't like the Distortion neck at all. Black Winter neck is fantastic, but not what I'd call particularly NWOBHM. That said, I don't think any neck pickup would be very NWOBHM.

I don't like the Distortion neck either, it is not a bad pickup really, It is not that much of a shredded neck tone to me anyway.

NWOBHM - you have two choices;

Superdistortion, or Duncan Distortion. Can't miss either way….
