Duncan Distortion/Ceramic Magnets/Trembuckers

I thought if you had ceramic magnets instead of coils, you dont need to get a trembucker. But, yet they sell Trembucker Distortion models

Huh???

I dont get it.

Re: Duncan Distortion/Ceramic Magnets/Trembuckers

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. All p'ups need both a magnet and a coil to work. You'ld never have one or the other. And a "trembucker" simply means that the pole pieces are spaced slightly wider apart to align better with tremolo equiped guitars. That really has nothing to do with magnets or coils.

Am I misunderstanding you, maybe? :smack:

Re: Duncan Distortion/Ceramic Magnets/Trembuckers

I think he's thinking that the Distortion has rails intead of poll peices... but, it infact has pole peices, albeit strange ones...

Re: Duncan Distortion/Ceramic Magnets/Trembuckers

Ah . . . that makes some sense. So, you'ld never have a trembucker Dimebucker for instance.

Although, you're right - the "Distortion" isn't a "rail". ;)

Re: Duncan Distortion/Ceramic Magnets/Trembuckers

Indie when you say "albeit strange ones" referring to pole pieces are you talking about a TB-06 or the Parallell Axis Original? A regular TB-06 (distortion) has normal pole pieces.

Re: Duncan Distortion/Ceramic Magnets/Trembuckers

so i would have to get the trembucker distortion to put into a jackson with a floyd rose if i cant work out putting an 81 in it?

Re: Duncan Distortion/Ceramic Magnets/Trembuckers

Just to clarify whats what:

I never noticed 'til this thread came up, that there's both a Distortion Trembucker and
a Duncan Distortion with trembucker spacing.

Hmmm . . . :smack:

that is the most confusing thing I've ever seen... I was referring to the distortion trembucker....

Re: Duncan Distortion/Ceramic Magnets/Trembuckers

Here's how they stack up on the "tone chart":

BTW - The Blues Saraceno has those same weird pole pieces:

Gawd....21.3k for the Distortion TB is just sick. I didn't realize that there were 2 seperate Distortions either Artie.

That Blues Trembucker looks like it would be a great pickup. Still vintage output, but wound slightly hot. I've only heard good things about them....I may have to try to pick one up.

Actually there would be 3 if you consider the Original Parallel Axis Trembucker as a Distortion as I beleive it was intended to be the Duncan Distortion Trembucker initially. Then if you included neck variants to the available models it can get confusing. :smack:
