Duncan Distortion oppinions?

So I know lots of people on here like using lower-gain pups and use the amp when they want higher gain sounds.

But I have a Peavey 6505+ and a Schecter Hellraiser that I just put a Duncan Distortion in the bridge

AND I LOVE IT!!!

Anyone else played around with this hot pickup?

It's my favorite for downtuned metal :headbang:

Sometimes I just can't believe how good it sounds through my Powerball. It has all you could ask for: sick lows, punchy mids, cutting treble (though I actually find it very musical, unlike others who find it too harsh. just lower the treble side of the pu a bit) and that unique aggression.

It's definitely one of seymour's masterpieces.

It's my favorite pickup period.

I have had one in my number one Les Paul for????? 15 to 20 years? Something like that.

I will always say that for mega gain amps, get a low output pup. But as it turns out I am a fan of high output ceramics. The reason is mostly the eq curve and the highs.

There is no Duncan that has THAT tight of a bottom, with that low a level of bass (migh LP doesn't need more bottom), and that much in the mids, AND those screaming highs. It's all about the eq curve.

And the output is kind of fun through my little pro junior :firedevil

The only thing I say about the DD is that everybody should try it at least once.

It didn't mix with my Charvel 750XL. I do like the Duncan Designed HB103 set in my KE3.

One of the things I think need to be looked at is pickup placement and the natural fatness of the guitar. The 750XL is a mahogany set neck fixed bridge rosewood 24.75" scale. But most important, the bridge pickup is located fairly far away from the bridge so it gets a lot more string vibration and power. I downgraded to a Full Shred set.

On Historic LP's, Gibson has moved the bridge pickup 3 times since it came out.

It works very well in the KE3 with a DK1 neck - long scale, bolt on, floating trem, ebony FB.

I have a zebra DDJ waiting for the right Lynch project to come around.

thumbs up for the dd of course.great pup ,i am using it for 7 years with an alder body ,never going to take it out.

Funny, my buddy and co-guitarist has an Epi Sheraton II and he put a Distortion in the bridge of that guitar. It sounds great! He doesn't play metal or high gain, but the pup is wonderfully articulate. He just has it set really low away from the strings and it's honestly my favourite of all his guitars.

Im thinking about giving it another try in my Lester. I'll take Ace's advice and use some 300k pots though. :)

it is, hands down, my favorite pickup for metal. but it's a one trick pony. only good for metal.

I think it's great at what it does. It's not quite my taste for most of the playing that I do, but if I were into metal tones that were a little more modern, I'd probably have them in several guitars.

I wonder what would be the difference between JB and DD, if JB had a regular ceramic in it? Granted, now that we know JB wind is slightly different than the DD wind.

I also would like to know more. I tried a regular sized ceramic in a JB a LONG time ago, but I can't really remember how it worked. I think I was in love with the stock JB so much that I just popped the A5 back in after a short try. It might be the perfect "in between" of JB and DD.

I think concensus is that it's so close to a distortion it doesn't matter.
