What height do you have the DD at?

I've kept my bridge DD pretty low in the past, to get more smoothness... just raised it to just below the strings ( just high enough so when I palm mute the string won't touch the poles), and am blown away by the tone.

Wondering about everyone else's opinion on this Where do you all find the dd is best?

Id say you've got them in the right spot now. If looking for the high output, raising the pickup right below the 6th string when palm mute will deliver the DDs full potential.

I keep all bridge pups as high as they can go, and goof around with the neck ones till they sound good.

I have found that a DD can be a little bright unless you crank that puppy pretty high!

I keep mine as high as possible, but lower it enough so when I'm digging in abnormally hard, I'm not touching the pole pieces with the strings.

I have found that a DD can be a little bright unless you crank that puppy pretty high!

Wouldn't brightness give it a more vintage flavour? That's undesireable?

the DD seemed more icepicky than bright to me... putting it near the strings seemed to solve it.

Putting it near the strings has actually kept me from selling the pickup. Thanks for giving me affirmation!

Do you just turn the screws on the sides of the pickup mount clockwise to raise it, and counter clockwise to lower it? i might try it to get some sount out of my junk pickups.

I turned mine so the poles are not on the bridge side, then I raised all of the poles about 1/8 inch or so. That mellowed the bright edge a bit.

One thing I have noticed about the DD is, it has noticeable string pull. The magnet is pretty strong.

When I say bright and I'm talking about a DD I mean ice picky bright! I get it high enough to mage that go away, but like Stevo said...they do have lots of pull so you have to keep it low enough to not cause a problem. Set up right a DD has a real cool sound...I even think they sound good when split!

Honestly, I have no idea what height mine are set at. I just fiddle with them until they sound the way I want them to. At the neck, I usually start at a height even with the level of the fretboard and go from there. With the bridge, I start with a height that is even with the neck and/or middle pickup and go from there.

they sound beautiful when split. I like the split sound better than hb. It's just like a really good strat! I think the DD is the best sounding split pickup ever.

That's alot O'pup to keep away from the strings. Mines jacked up close, for MAXIMUM damage!!! :saeek: :32:
