Duncan Distortion/Super D/ Super 3

K. I have just learned that to have say an EMG with 2 single coils would not work out so well...SO, I guess I will just have to find that EMG 81 crunch, hotness, mid-range and all that other good stuff in a passive humbucker.

Before I decided on the 81, I was interested in the Duncan Distortion, the Super D and the Super 3....

What (in your guys' opinions) sounds most identical to their tone? I want extremely crunchy mids, a nice tight bass and awesome sustain. I want a sound identical to Slayer....

out of the 3, choose what you think would do the job the best!!!!

Re: Duncan Distortion/Super D/ Super 3

Gary says the Custom will do it.

Re: Duncan Distortion/Super D/ Super 3

The Distortion would do it. In my signature, follow the link and listen to the Slayer mix I did. All Distortion bridge, through my V-amp2

Definitely not. That is a great pickup but sounds NOTHING like the 81...way too much mids and not enough treble.

The closest I have gotten to the 81 sound is the Duncan Distortion....although the Evo has some qualities that make it a contender as well.

Re: Duncan Distortion/Super D/ Super 3

Alright. I'm going to say the Distortion based on what everybody's saying...I thought you didnt need to get a humbucker in f-spaced or trembucker or whatever if it had ceramic magnets??? the Distortion has ceramic magnets, but you can get a trembucker version of it???? WHA????

If anybody wants to know EXACTLY what tone I'm looking for, go buy Slayer's "Decade of Aggression:Live" and just listen to the lead guitar in all the songs. I want that tone....

Just keep in mind it's mostly the amp as well.

Man, just listen to the clips in the link below, you can hear what it sounds like, not guess and buy.

Dude, I would totally listen to those, but I cant on my comp. It has something where you cant listen to stuff. Trust me, I've tried your link 50x and it never works

I'll just have to go to a friend's house or something and listen to it

Nice job on the Sanitarium clip.....is your XXX stock?? Mine didn't sound that good stock....I switched to E34L's then it sounded much better IMO.

you could just keep the emg81 and get two emg SA's single coils and you are OK......i have done this to my am.std(emg85) and it's a very nice versatile gutar.

Yeap, he's right. There is a connection failure to that link...

Like I've told you to the other thread, if you want harsh metal, go DDistortion or Custom, if u want a versatile pup, go JB. But all of these depends on what amp do u use.

Evo is good for Vai's type lead solos, not for Slayer/Metallica riffs (of course, that's my point of view). And it's a very "exigent" pup

Yes. If you want the EMG 81 this is the best you can do.
