Duncan Distortion TB-6 Info Needed

Hey there, everybody!

Does anyone know if the TB-6 would be the best choice to get that new metal rectifier-like sound (something similar to Slipknot's Psychosocial or Sevendust's Denial tone) and metalic cleans (slap)? I'm looking for something with an above-average ammount of distortion and capable of handling low tunings well (C1, Eventually Bb0).
In short, I needed a massive rectified low end chunk and somewhat bright cleans. Can the TB-6 Deliver it? Or should I go for something stronger? Or perhaps a JB (for brighter cleans)?
I'm not considering the Mick Thomsom's sig pups cuz I'm not an active pickup fan.

Thanks for your help!

guitar and amp?
i'm thinking that for bright cleans and plenty low-end, the TB-6 or SH-6 should do nicely

customs aren't very good for teh cleans, IMO

Chewbacca, you've definitely got the right idea with the distortion, it is dead on for that nu metal stuff like slipknot...sevendust actually uses that pickup as does static-x. I don't think you can go wrong unless you actually want clean cleans. If you are playing through a tube amp and actually want to be clean the Custom is a better choice. If you don't mind a little breakup and want your cleans ultra bright the distortion has got you covered.

Re: Duncan Distortion TB-6 Info Needed

Just to be clear; you do know that you don't actually get any distortion from the pickup, right?

If you're playing through a decent high gain amp, the sh-6/tb-6 is great for rythm tones.
I'm not a big fan of it for leads though, I find it a little too harsh.

Re: Duncan Distortion TB-6 Info Needed

Oops! I forgot to mention it. Right now I have an epiphone les paul special (tuned to Bb1) and a peavey envoy 110, but I plan on getting better gear.

I've been testing some new amps lately: Blackstar HT Stage 60 (combo), Peavey Valve King 100 (head) + 412 Slant Cabinet, Mesa Dual Rectifier + 412 Slant Cabinet, Bogner Alchemist and the Peavey 6505 212 (combo closed back). I liked the 6505 the most for it's clean sound and price. It lacked the rectified tone, but, thanks to the tonehunter mod on my BOSS MD2, I got that problem solved. I used a Schecter Hellrariser C8 to test them (2X EMG 808).
The TB6 is meant to be the bridge pickup of a custom 8 string guitar (Michael Sherman).
The idea came from sevenstring (I used to have an account there): I was looking for an 8 string with passive pups, and I thought that I had no choice but getting some bareknuckles or a pair of lundgren m8's for it. Then someone on the forum appeared with a pair of custom 8 String Passive SD's, Invaders, if I'm not mistaken. I e-mailed SD to confirm this: it seems that making 8 string versions of their other pups was, indeed, a possibility.
I always liked the sound of SD's moderate to high output pickups sound. But the JB sounded a bit too weak on the bridge position when I tested it on Schecter Blackjack C1 EX with the 6505 + MD2 setup, the cleans were great though. So, basically, I need a stronger JB for low tunings and I wanted to know if the TB 6 would be fit for this job. I'm gonna put a SH 2 Jazz in the Neck for smooth leads.
I think I should also mention this:
Wood: Mahogany body, Neck thru Hard rock maple, Walnut top, Ebony fingerboard.
Tuning (low to high): C1, F1, Bb1, Eb2, Ab2, Db3, F3, Bb3
String Gauge (low to high): .130, .100, .080, .056, .044, .030w, .018, .013 (Ernie Ball Stainless Steel)

Sh*t man.. You should put bass pickups in that guitar

Joking aside, I think the TB-6 will do exactly what you're looking for, at least for distorted rythm stuff. The cleans are a little like the JB in the way that it seems most people aren't too fond of them but, seeing as you liked the JB clean, you might like this one as well.

No, I'm not looking for ultra clean stuff. I actually like that grainy sound that comes with the breakup. I'm looking for something similar to River Of Deceit by Mad Season to be my bridge pickup's clean sound (maybe a bit dirtier), A slightly overdriven, somewhat brighty tone using the amps's natural distortion, the lead or rithym channel of the 6505 in my case. With that I would be able to get the amp's dirty sound using an overdrive pedal to boost the signal or reach the rectifier sound trough the MD 2.
The Duncan Distortion really sounds like the right choice to me. Thanks for the tips!
