Duncan Distortion vs Custom 5

Cream Super D (with a cream PAF neck) sure is a classic look for an LP Custom. Iconic rock n roll tone, too.

Barring that, I agree: the guitar would be sexier with covers.

I had some pups laying around and decided to drop them in, so I can say I can have (1) a sort-of hot rodded set, and (2) see how uncovered pups look like in an LPC...

I would say, black uncovered pups don't look good in an LPC, while zebras look "okay". Covered still look the best.

The 59 Tribute has less bass (less boomy) but less honky than the Duncan 59

The JB (90's, pulled from a Washburn MG90, wound by MJ) still sounds like a JB...Still middy and has that "sizzle". Bass is good enough, especially through a 4x12. I can feel the floor vibrate doing the intro riff to "rock and roll" rebel.

I can understand why the JB+59 is quite a popular set even on LPs

Rock on! \m/

A friend of mine has a Custom with the original T-top in the neck (still covered) and a JB in the bridge, uncovered. It gives it a hot rodded look and it sounds awesome. He mostly plays heavy metal (old Metallica to Mastodon) and sometimes a little early Green Day. If you want to experiment I say try a Duncan Distortion. If you think it's a little hot you can back the gain down off on the amp.

I'm a big fan with the covers off look on pretty much all Les Paul's, especially Custom's and Standards. Gives them that bad ass 80's hot rod look. Plus they sound better IMHO with the 2 coils being more balanced with the covers off.

Duncans are in! Plugged it into my DSL20HR through a Mahogany cab with reconed G12-65 and they're surprisingly super PUNCHY!

APH2n sounds as advertised. It's basically a brighter APH1n with a little more output.

Duncan Distortion were surprisingly punchy with a lot of bite! It truly is a heavy metal pickup. Great contrast in tone with the APH2n.

I'll have my LPC set up by my luthier and plug it into my SLX through a 1960 cab and we'll see how it sounds.

I'm very happy!

And yes, I get to try my 37mm lens on it as well :)

15 years ago I put a Distortion bridge in my buddie's Jay Turser LP copy. It's still there. Along with a DD Jazzn in the neck.

Cool wide range set for classic to metal. Kinda like my T-Top / Distortion #1 LP Standard!

I like balls-to-the wall on the thick LP tone and the DD really crunches hard and is in your face, and you can open up the bass on the amp without going mud.

The A2P will gom from blues to hard rock, and of course fat singing leads.

The middle will be a unique tone. Fat but cutting highs, with fat but tight bass! Mids will punch you in the gut either way!!!!
