Duncan doesn't fit

I got the SH-13 Dimebucker to replace the standard humbucker in my strat. It doesn't fit in the cut-out for the humbucker slot...what should I do? :smack:

Re: Duncan doesn't fit

i got a trembucker for my floyed rose strat. it was too big. i got a file and made it fit.

Re: Duncan doesn't fit

My covered buckers wouldn't fit into my strat pickguard so out came the dremel and.........I ruined the pickguard! :yell: So I got another and had my dad (who is more patient than me on such things) dremel it out. File would work just as well but slower and more precise.

So does it fit now? or what?

Re: Duncan doesn't fit

The dimebucker doesn't fit in the pickguard, there's plenty of room in the cavity. I've also noticed the mounting tabs on the dimebucker doesn't match the pickguard either. I guess it's time to whip out Mr. Dremel. :smack:

Re: Duncan doesn't fit

Is this a normal-spacing-vs.-F-spacing problem?

Does F-spacing change the width of the mounting holes?

Re: Duncan doesn't fit

The chassis and overall dimensions of an F-spaced are the same as a normal spaced pups - it's simply wider spaced pole pieces.

I'd use a file and work it slow. A dremel is an appealing tool given it cuts the work time down, but you could easily remove too much material or even begin to melt the pickguard. As for the holes not lining up perfectly, you should still be able to use the holes... but you may not be able to raise the pup as high as you'd like. It also depends on how far off the holes are.

I don't know what F-Spacing is. I got a piece of 150 grit sandpaper and slowly worked the hole on the sides until it was wide enough. I only needed about 1/16". I did have to drill a new hole in the pickguard because the original humbucker has two staggered holes on the left and one centered hole on the right. The Duncan has two centered holes. It wasn't hard to do, and it all fit in just fine.
