Duncan HB for Mahogany?

I need some good suggestions for a HB for my Vintage Mahogany LP. The BB pro in the neck sounds great and is like instant vintage tone, but always hated the bridge for it's spikeyness. So far i tried a JB (it was an F-spaced one I had in a strat) and I thought it was okay but kind of thin on the high end. Then an Air zone and it is voiced right but no chime at all and kind of dead sounding. Any good suggestions...I like to play heavy musin a la Alice in Chains, GNR, metallica, but I like to roll back he tone know and get a woman tone too...Not sure if one pickup can do all that though!

Thanks,

Rick

I think you would like the custom, it is one of the most dynamic med-high output pickups out there. It has PAF voicing but with a bit more punch and output, it would cover the heavier styles well.

I'm going to suggest Custom 5. It's heavy as hell, and a little more vintage sounding than the Custom. Its quite a bit more open and clear than the regular Custom, with chimey cleans (which can spank almost like a tele...) and great chunk and crunch when turned up. I play everything from Zeppelin and Cream up to Death Metal, and all the bands you mentioned, and it sounds pretty darn good for them.

Gotta agree with Timmy.

The C5 works really well in Gibby's, especially thru a loud, Brit style amp.

Custom or Custom 5.

Really, they are the same pickup so, buy the Custom and get an alnico 5 magnet too. You can try them both that way. A Magnet swap is fairly easy to do.

Re: Duncan HB for Mahogany?

Another vote for the Custom series. I like the A2 Custom Custom or a mag swap to an A8 better that the C5 or Ceramic mag Custom for the kinda tones you are asking for though. The Custom is a little harsher and the big scoop in the C5 lets it get lost in the mix in a Mahogany boddied guitar.
