Duncan + Mesa-Boogie + Recabinet = ROCK.

Hey guys,

Thought I'd share some of what I'm working on lately. My main guitars for the heavy tracks on this have been my two parts-mutt Super-Strats, one Koa and one Ash, outfitted with a Duncan TB-11/STK S1-N combo and TB-5 respectively. Also using some traditional-build (no humbuckers or Floyds) Strats w/Virtual Vintages for the cleans (but from a post I saw from Frank Falbo recently describing the new STK's that may soon change). ;)
I have Pro Tools LE 8 and PODfarm, but I've yet to hear an emulation that IMO touches the crunch of my Mesa-Boogie red-stripe MK III. I mean, not even emulations of Boogies...lol So I tried Recabinet's speaker emulation software, taking the slave-out of the Boogie (which the cool folks at Boogie informed me is post EQ/FX loop/Power amp, so I can run my pedalboard as well) into my M-box.
Basically nails my live tone. And since I'm still running a cab rather than a load-box and recording with headphones, I can still play with feedback and get sustain at apartment-friendly volume. Loving the results thus far, figured I'd share a work in progress with my fellow tone-freaks.

This example is just the guitar tracks and a guide bassline; there's no post-effects or mastering, these are just the guitar tracks...the MP3 turned out a little darker than it sounds on my reference monitors (probably should have used a little post-EQ) but it's already sounding pretty cool IMO! The clean tracks are PODfarm, but the meat is all the Boogie and Recabinet... :D :cool3: I wondered how the palm-mutes would sound with the CC, but I think they're just thick enough...:32:

1-Month-BUMP

After messing around more with Recabinet, and checking out the tutorial vid, it's possible to get killer sounds out of PODfarm as well...here's one with an Ash Charvel mutt Strat with a Maple neck, Duncan TB-5, and a Brass Big-Block...

NICE!!! I just got REcabinet. I haven't even installed it or tried it out yet. Nice little demo.
The heavy tones through Recabinet sound nice. The slave out on your amp is a great thing. I have been wondering too, how I could get the whole signal chain, including the power amp, if I record using Recabinet. I don't want to just plug a preamp into my audio interface and run that into Recabinet. My rack power amp (Marshall 20/20) has a direct out. Maybe that is post power amp.

The overall texture of the clip you recorded is reminiscent of Type O Negative. Pretty cool.

Thanks. :D You're going to love Recabinet. Check the the manual on it and your Marshall, you should be able to get what you want out of it...:scratchch
Then it's off to the races...lol

Also if you haven't, check out the YouTube tutorial and then try the 3-mic set-up on whatever cabinet emulation you've chosen as described....sounds HUGE!

Cool thing about it is you get the whole bottom-end chunk usually missing with other emulations I've tried....it makes everything sound better, the Boogie, PODfarm...can't go wrong... I love it...:friday:

The guitar tracks on that one were also done with the same Charvel mutt..

Sounds cool man, nice riffage. You're getting digital distortion on something I think?

Thanks!
You're probably right; on that one (you are just talking about that example, right? )...when I (mechanically) duplicated the Boogie track and changed the Recabinet emulation to the 121 mic (same cabinet emulation) the signal did spike at one point  ...so I'm definitely going to go back and re-do that rhythm track.

Thinkin' -maybe- the key with Recabinet there is to track with the most sensitive mic emulation (haven't check the specs on the real thing, but I think a 121 is more sensitive than an SM57, IIRC?) first, so if the track doesn't clip it won't when you duplicate it (sans insert, of course) and then put on the other mic emulations...in that instance I'd started with the 57.
Sounds like a good theory, anyway, we'll see how well it works....;)
