Duncan Strat arrives...

Unbelievable quality neck. Gloss finished on the back and the paw slides up and down on it very easy. Fret ends are perfect. Guitar has a few tiny dings in teh body and one small ding on the headstock ( a cigarette burn "coolness" look gone awry I think)

Other than that, the pups are Alinco V stagered Duncans. Trem arm ismissing, but I knew that going into it.

I really have planned in turning it in a few years for a profit, but I'm not sure I can do that now.

I'm not much on the mint green guard and the aged knobs, but that's a quick fix.

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

man, Scott. If I wasnt trying to get my old guitar out of hock, I would've begged my mom for her credit card number for that one. Hey, if you're gonna get rid of the green pickguard, I'm looking for one (my old one warped, dont know how, but it did). PM me if you decide to sell it. Thanks.

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

what's the scoop on this duncan strat? I think I know what you're talking about, but maybe I'm wrong...

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

won't sell it, might want to take it back to being original if I ever decide to sell the thing. also, I might just leave it alone and see if it grows on me.

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

The Duncan strat will never be produced again. ESP made it with real US Duncan pups and some quality to attention and detail that are amazing. I'm not sure what these went for new, but mattt was saying it was pretty excessive. They were only for sale in Japan to avoid legal conflict with Fender.

Not sure who agreed with who, but there will be no more Duncan licensed Japanese strat or teles. I'm guess with the amount of pups that Seymour is providing to Fender on these new Lite Ash series had something to do with it, but that's only a guess.

Actually, what happened was this: Fender received registration in Japan for the shape of their Strat, Tele and bass headstocks; and the Seymour Duncan-brand guitars used the Fender headstocks. Rather than change the headstocks, it was decided to call it quits on the Fender-clone guitars.

But who knows, someday there may again be a whole new line of Seymour Duncan guitars in Japan -- just not Fender clones. We'll have to wait and see what people think... :feedback:

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

I, personally, wouldn't care too much about it, for the same reason that SD equiped guitars don't interest me . . . it takes all the fun out of deciding which Duncans to "customize" the guitar with. ;)

I beg to differ on that one Artie. I have absolutely no complaints about buying a guitar that comes from the factory with a JB/Jazz combo (Schecter C-1 Classic), split and wired with a 5-way.
It puts all the fun INTO that axe, I guarantee it!

:)

About the Duncan Strat, I also know from experience that 60's RI style Strats made in Japan are excellent pieces of work. They have great tone, are dressed fairly nice and are good players, nice hardware.

I'd buy one! =) The question I need to ask though is if you started it up again, why would it be only in japan?

sign me up :)

a modded version of a tele-gib, perhaps? with cool, custom colors, single or double contours, natural binding option, vintage tint necks, jumbo frets ...
I'm just trying to brainstorm here, 'cause after Fender clones, it's hard for me to come up with something original

this is almost "pole-worthy", though, IMO. :)

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

It'd be cool if you guys could come up with a PRS japan-only clone. :)

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

btw Scott, that Duncan strat has to be as nice as a Knopfler sig! :)

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

I don't have a Seymour Duncan Strat, but I do have a mid 90s ESP Vintage Plus Strat copy with 3 Duncan Vintage Rails which will be up for sale shortly. PM me if you're interested.

YOU BEAT ME TO IT CURLY!!!

I was reading this post & thought the same thing! It's screaming "Money For Nothing" :)

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

A line of Duncan equipped guitars would be a pretty cool idea. Or maybe even a couple "stock" designs and the ability to customize which Duncans would go in there. But as UCSDBoy said, why just Japan?

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

They were available in Japan only because until recently it was legal to copy the Fender headstock in Japan.

Re: Duncan Strat arrives...

those are really nice guitars they pop up on ebay rather often... Nice score Scott

Was this guitar made to Mr. Duncans specs or did they just put his name on it??

I have no problem with this at all except, and I might get jumped for saying this. I want high quality at a reasonable price. No, low end high production junk. Quality over quantity wins every time in my book. :) Plus, why just a strat clone. Maybe look at a Les Paul style too. I think you would cover many types of players that way.
