which of duncan tb 4 5 or 6 is the darkest/warmest of these three to put in a strat bridge. anyone help? worried about being too bright.

Re: duncan tb 4,5 or 6

the jb isnt bright but has a big upper mid peak which some find to be bright sounding. the distortion has a big ceramic magnet and while i dont think its bright sounding, it isnt warm either. the custom and the custom custom are the same wind with different magnets. the tb5 custom has ceramic and the tb11 cc has alnico 2. are you using 250k pots or 500k?

Re: duncan tb 4,5 or 6

The JB will sound bright with distortion, otherwise, there isn't a lot of treble between the wind and magnet. Based on your post I still don't think it's the best choice. An A2 magnet in a JB can be worthwhile, but again, not a good fit if you're looking for warm.

The JB sounds bright to me. I am used to pickups like the Seth, Alnico II Pro and Custom Custom...even the 59/Custom Hybrid. The JB sounds bright compared to them.

the seth bridge sounds brighter to me than the jb, especially clean. the jb has the aggressive upper mid thing that some hear as bright with distortion but even then i think the seth is brighter. the seth is more balanced for sure and i prefer the sound but i dont hear the jb as brighter

The CustomCustom is warm, but I wouldn't call it smooth. It has pretty aggressive mids. I really like the CustomCustom in a strat bridge. I run traditional single coils and the CustomCustom with 300k pots. 250k pots muffle it too much. 500k would be better, but then the singles can get too bright.

5WSS and a loading resistor for the singles. 5WSS so you can get the same load regardless of whether either or both singles are active.

FWIW, I like the tone of the JB2 though it's still not dynamic enough for my tastes. It still has some bite which works better for me than the CC.
