Duncan Vintage 54 Tele bridge vs. Antiquity II Tele bridge

Hi everyone,

Can anybody give me some input on these two pickups? I'm looking for a super twangy bridge pickup for a good chicken pickin' tone. I'd like to stay with a lower output Alnico 5, so that's why I chose those two. I'll be playing mostly clean or at the edge of breakup on a Princeton Reverb, and occasionally rocking out with it through an Orange and Marshall...but I'm more concerned with the clean twang for this guitar.

I have a Nash Tele (Ash body/Rosewood board) that currently has Lollars. The Lollars are great, but I want something twangier for the bridge (I've tried both the Special T and Vintage T in the bridge...too smooth on the high end for what I'm looking for). I'm most likely keeping the Lollar Vintage T neck where it is...it's a very nice Tele neck pickup.

The Vintage 54 and Antiquity II seem to have similar specs on the Duncan site in terms of EQ. The sound clips are a little different though...with with the VIntage 54 sounding a tad fuller perhaps...but it's hard to tell. I'd love to hear some opinions on anyone who's played both or either one. They both sound bright which I like...but will either of them get ice picky?

Also as a side question...will mixing a Lollar neck and Duncan bridge give me any 60 cycle hum in the middle position?

You'll need a neck pickup that is reverse wound/reverse polarity relative to the bridge pickup to get humcancelling.

Call Jason and ask. He'll probably know.

As for the two bridge pickups, if you're comfortable spending the extra coin the Custom Shop pickups usually sound better and more complex than the regular assembly line pickups do, and are, IMO, usually worth it.

The Ant II has flat poles like a 51 - 53 Tele would have. The 54 has raised poles like later Tele bridge pickups would have and which might make it seem brighter and twangier.

I own a real 54 Tele and it has flat poles. But it's from early 54 so it's more like a 53.

Roy Buchanan's 53 Tele would have had pickups more similar to the Ant II. That's the one I'd get.
