Dunlop Fuzz Face as The Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face

Dunlop Fuzz FaceIs the Dunlop RI of this pedal a faithful reproduction? If I wanted to experience a true Dallas Fuzz Face...what would you recommend? I saw a gear page that indicated that this was the pedal used by Glimour on Echoes. I want to assemble a small collection of Gilmour-like pedals...

Anyone checkout the Dunlop Fuzz Face and like it? Or is the Fuzz Face one that would be simple enough to build?

There are only about 10 components (if that) in a Fuzz Face, the most important probably being the transistors. Having said that, the transistors are probably no longer made, I believe they were Mullard OC44's - I once built a BYOC fuzz face for a friend and it absolutely nailed the tone, the kit contained one of those transistors NOS.

Problem with the FF is that there are several versions of it, all correct depending upon when it was made. The earliest ones use Germanium transistors, the later ones silicon, and there are numerous component drifts. The result is that there is no single FF tone.

It is indeed simple to build. Check out Small Bear Electronics.

The Dunlop is NOTHING like an original...trust me.

If you want a good clone of a Fuzz Face there are several on the market right now but they cost a bit more than the Dunlop...Analog makes a killer FF Clone, Fulltone makes a fuzz that is based on the FF but not an exact clone, Thro-Bak makes a FF clone, Prescription Electronics makes one, there are many more not to mention about a million DIY kits out there...
