E string not over pole piece..

My 97 LP Standard with stock pickups and the e string is basically over the edge of the pole piece. B string to some extent. Does it matter much??

Re: E string not over pole piece..

is it the guitar thats off or the pickups

ive had some guitars with that as long as they are in enough of the magnetic range its not as noticable

i was given a short scale bass and put on a standard bridge and the pickups werent as wide and the e and g string were not as loud

if you upgrade those pickups and its the guitars string alignment thats off and not the pickups then emgs would probably be best because the magnets go from side to side and has no pole or slug pieces that go up and down so it should pick it up better

Re: E string not over pole piece..

I've got a normal spaced pickup in the bridge position of a guitar that should have f-spaced, and I can't make out a difference.

Re: E string not over pole piece..

Well, the saddles are cut right in the middle and the e string is a little off the edge of the fretboard, but I wouldn't want it much closer to the edge. Looks like the pickup spacing is a little wide, but that doesn't make sense since it's the stock Gibby pickups.....you'd think they would design it a little better if that's the case.

Re: E string not over pole piece..

cr@ppily made gibson stuff is unfortunatly more common by the day it surprises me but not that much do you notice a volume difference in the affected strings

Re: E string not over pole piece..

Not so much volume issue, but it becomes a little harsh/thin sometimes. Of course I've heard that about the stock gibby pickups as well. Probably should change them out with an A2 set of some sort.

Re: E string not over pole piece..

w/ some pickups ive had that problem and its no big deal, others its like night / day... if its not too noticeable when playing id say it should be okay...ever since i got my custom blade pickups i havent had to fiddle around with it =)

Re: E string not over pole piece..

can you take a picture of it? I'd just raise the particular pole piece that was out of whack and see if it gets better.

I've seen this on many brands of guitars, not just Gibson. One of the advantages of putting Tone Pros on my Les Pauls is that I got to position the string notches exactly where I wanted them.

Re: E string not over pole piece..

Scott, I was thinking about the tonepros too. To get it over the pole piece, the string would be at the edge of the fretboard, but I'm sure I could get it closer. I'll take a pic tomorrow....trying to get the youngins ready for bed now.

Re: E string not over pole piece..

I'd sacrifice where it lines up over the pole piece before I'd get too close to the edge of the board. Good point.

Might just be the pup itself.
