E string stuck in bridge pickup bobbin

I was strumming over zealously and the E string slammed into the copper winding of the bridge JB. I carefully pulled the string out and the pickup didn't sound damaged.

Is there a chance of damage? Or can the fine copper handle a rough introduction to a 10 string lodged in it?

There is a (moderate) risk of damage, even if the pickup is still working. Check if the tone pot works normally: if ever it behaves like a 2d volume control and thins out the sound in the strange way, the wire has been harmed.

Now, it can also happen without causing any other issue than retrospective fear. Hope it's the case. :-)

What Freefrog said. Another symptom could that you lost bass in the sound. The pickup sounds awfully bright.

This is actually an issue for some guitarists- some solve it by putting tape on the edges of the bobbin, and some just put covers on the pickup. But the first step is to make sure the pickup is OK.
