Jomo's Nimions
I'm heading to the guitar lending library (ie, my dad's house) and swiping the ES-175. It's the first version, with a single P90 in the neck. I had it for awhile before, when I was into scooped mids and tons of gain, but I'm looking at using it for what it was intended.
He's exclusively a bluegrass player now, so the 175 has sat unplayed for years. I remember it being very dark sounding, so I grabbed a D'addario 11-49 set with a wound G to brighten it up a bit. Also, seeing how it's 65-ish years old, I figured I'd go easy on it, tension wise. I know that the proper thing to do would be to use flats, but the Chromes were $15. Maybe next time.
I've always been into the fusion guys, but I've been listening to the Guitar Wank podcast with Scott Henderson and Bruce Forman, so I'm looking to go real-deal jazz.
Funny story as to my dad obtaining it: Around 1970, he was laying carpet for someone. He and the customer went into the guy's garage to get a tool, and my dad saw the 175 leaning in the corner, minus all the hardware. He asked if he'd like to sell it, and the guy said, "Oh that? My son just got me a Dixon... You can have that old piece of sh*t!" and included a bucket full of all the original parts and hardware.
