Early Mustaine Pickups?

I just recently got a great deal on both a USA Jackson KV1 and a MIJ Jackson King V Pro. The USA model comes with a JB/JB set and the Pro comes with the Jackson bridge and a Bill Lawrence neck of some kind. My question is what pickup combo would get me the best tones for the 86-90 years (Peace Sells, SFSGSW and RIP)? I've heard Dave used a JB or a Custom or a Custom 5 and I believe the Jackson pup is a 90C which is based off the Custom (won't be able to check until that guitar gets back from my tech). And I should probably add I'm running these babies through either a Marshall 6100LM or a JVM410HJS.

Re: Early Mustaine Pickups?

if i recall he used a jb/jazz set until he went active with the live wires that have been described as active voiced jb and jazz

Re: Early Mustaine Pickups?

Well from what it looks like the J90C which is in the Pro is a kind of JB/Custom/Distortion mutt. When did he start using that? Also which Duncan pup is closet to the J90C?

Re: Early Mustaine Pickups?

well you wont want to change anything on the guitar with the jackson lawrence set, they're actually dave's sig and just a very few of them were made with the jackson bridge and lawrence neck, the JB JB one is like the custom shop jackson king v (the one with the megadeth logo) that Dave used for Peace Sells and SFSGSW! (look at them videos you will notice the pickup poles), the old King V pros were what dave used on the early 90's, and only like the 2 first batches or se featured a Jackson Bridge Pickup wich was made after a duncan jb, the next batches would feature a Duncan JB, those are the guitars dave used on the rust in peace/CTE tour, if you watch the videos from that era you will notice the bill lawrence neck pickup, dave used the rails as extra frets, if you can look closely and the videos are nice quality you can tell wich jacksons had wich bridge pickup.
