EBMM Axis pickup question

I replaced one of the pick-ups on my EBMM Axis and I found that the poles do not match up correctly. While this doesn't appear to affect the sound I was wondering if the F-space pick-ups would work better?

While I like the original pick-ups in the MusicMan Axis I find that they don't cut in the mix during a live situation. Plus I have to admit I put JB's in all my guitars. I'm just a big fan of those.

I notice the dimensions are a little different so would it even fit in the cavity of the Axis?

Thanks in advance!

Re: EBMM Axis pickup question

Fello Axis owner here. You need the F spaced or the Trembucker, I'm pretty sure. You will probably have to use wood screws and drill out the screw holes (or at least ream them) on the pups to get the replacement to work. Just a guess, I've never tried it.

You don't need the F-space as it doesn't make much of a difference whether it lines up with the strings..either way the magnetism will pickup up on the strings regardless. As for the mounting..it is the same..the mounting tabs on the tremspaced pickups are closer to the pickup, because the pickup itself is slightly wider than the regular spaced and the regular spaced pickup has the mounting holes a little further apart to match standard humbucking mounts. You'll be ok. You can check the size and dimensions on the duncan website to compare..and once you're there..it's not much of a difference in terms of mounting.

Re: EBMM Axis pickup question

I think it does help the tone to have the polepieces lined up under the strings and I always use a Duncan with Trembucker spacing for the bridge pickup of my Strat type guitars and guitars with Fender string spacing. Normal spacing works fine for the neck pickup. I've put new pickups in my Axis. I had to straighten and then cut and file the legs that the ht. adjustment screws go through and then drill a new screw hole for the wood screw to go through. No biggie...but it did take some time. Just take the replacement pickup and make its "legs" match the length and shape of the Dimarzio's "legs". Make sure you like the pickup though...you'll void any warranty with an alteration like that.

Re: EBMM Axis pickup question

From my experiences, it didn't make much difference to me at all. If you're stuck with a standard spacing pickup and need trem spacing..I don't think it's even worth the hassle to return it to get another one..if you feel the need to.
