What's the best echo pedal? For slapback stuff. I fell in love with the sound on Rory Gallagher tracks like Cradle Rock, and I really want one in my rig, but one that's also versitile enough to do.. whatever else I would want.. Including Reggae and Ska that I sometimes do randomly.

Re: Echo-O-O-O-o-o-o

actually my favorite budget pedal for slap delay is the ibanez ad-9

is it true bypass? no, but neither was an echoplex :fingers:

i'm gonna pick one up this weekend actually, the danelectro BLT crapped out a long time ago & i been puttin off gettin another pedal for too long

the ibanez DE7 is *okay* at slap echo but it has more tricks on it than the ad-9. Just depends on what you're looking for

me, playing rockabilly, i need something with a quick slapback (almost ALWAYS under 800ms) that doesn't give digital-sounding repeats, but your needs may be different

with basic slap back, it is wide open...both analog and digital pedals will work well. The cheap Danelectro Reverb is more slapback than reverb- a good trashy bathroom sound.
If you want also want big delays too, I always recommend the Line6 DL4, but that might be overkill for your needs.

Re: Echo-O-O-O-o-o-o

There's a reason you see L6 DL4's on a LOT of pedalboards. It's the modern classic delay. It'll do good slapbacks, but I like digging into it for really cool sounds. It does so much, that it's like owning all the classic delay and echo units.

Re: Echo-O-O-O-o-o-o

I picked up two: The Short Timer; and the Line 6 Echo Park. Still working them into my pedalboard, but I think both of these do a nice job.

Does the echo park have issues with noise? Almost every review that I read of them compains about hum and buzzing when it's used with other pedals on a power supply (like a 1-spot).

I haven't tried it first hand, but everything I've read about the echopark mentions that problem.

My delay pedal is a BYOC Delay Pedal (I love them, a lot of fun to build). If you're feeling up to it, you can build a nice short time delay (no Pink Floyd stuff coming out of there!) with analog voicing and self oscillation. Love mine, love it to death.

Re: Echo-O-O-O-o-o-o

i keep telling you guys the line 6 leaves something to be desired as far as slapback, it's too clean

if you need a do-it-all delay yeah it works, buteven the dano BLT had a better slapback sound

the rocktron is good too, IMO almost as good as the ibanez

really? use the lo fi delay setting, it can sound so grungy that it is unrecognizeable as an echo of a guitar sound- or anywhere in between.

Re: Echo-O-O-O-o-o-o

lets see... The first notes of Welcome to the Jungle have delay... Thats about 150ms. So double it...

Re: Echo-O-O-O-o-o-o

lotsa pros seem to use Boss's Digital Delay...ay....ay....ay. Not sure what number they're up to, up to, up to....but there's been a number of models....models... odels...els...

I used to have one, and it was great with distortion cause you could still discern the notes slapping back as well as the notes being played, played, played....ed.....e.d.......d...

Yuck...uck...uck... I hate those DD pedals! Too bright and trebley... trebley... trebley...

Re: Echo-O-O-O-o-o-o

I love the Electro Harmonix Memory Man. Its a little on the expensive side and is kinda big, but its delat tone kicks ass. Id also recomend the Ibanez AD9, Keeley does a mod on it for true bypass and some other stuff if you want it.

I've been looking for the "All-in-one" delay and that seems to fit, what do you mean overkill?

has anyone had experiece with Boss Giga Delays? Are those pedals expressive?

Re: Echo-O-O-O-o-o-o

The boss giga delays are pretty sweet . . . try one of them out, and a/b it with a line 6 DL4 or Echo Park to see which one you like best and you'll probably be set . . .
