so, I keep noticing links to these edward's guitars and thumbnails. I finally checked it out for myself and I was very impressed. Only, I can't read Japanese.
So really, how do you guys go about buying these guitars? I mean in the future i might like to have one but right now I don't have any idea how much 90,000 yen is or anything.

Re: Edwards

How does it compare to a real LP? I heard the quality is somewhere inbetween a ltd, and a esp. Is that true?

Re: Edwards

i couldnt really give you an accurate answer to that. I've only played a gibson LP a handful of times. I did own an epi LP for the past 2 years and it craps all over that. The pickups (JB and '59) are obviously gonna sound different compared to a gibson's burstbuckers. I just can't imagine a guitar being constructed any better... better woods and better electronics maybe, but better construction? nope.

oh, and as far as giving you a comparison with ltd and esp (im assuming you meant the navigator series) i can't do that either. ESP made guitars are rare here in oz.

Re: Edwards

Kyle, Use online currency converters like the other guys have said. Also look at www.katanaguitars.com for some real god stuff. Thats where I bought the sparkle tele from and couldn't have been happier with their service.

Re: Edwards

Well, LTDs are primarily made in Korea, where all Edwards guitars are produced in the same Japanese factory that ESPs are. I have heard that the only difference between the Edwards and ESP production line guitars are that the ESPs undergo final set-up and fret leveling at the hands of ESP employees, where for Edwards this step is handled on the production line.

As for wood, hardware, and electronics, the Edwards seem to match up quite well against American-made brands in any comparison I'm qualified to make. Maybe the pots could be improved, but that's conjecture on my part - they sound good and feel solid.

I have an Edwards E-LP-98LTC (aged white LP Custom copy) and the wood used is definitely up there in terms of quality. It's loud, resonant, and weighs in at a featherweight (for an LP) 8.5 lbs without any sign of weight relief.

It arrived packaged very, very well and completely unharmed from it's long but rapid journey from Ishibashi. After performing some minor tweaks to the set-up to adjust for my string gauges, it plays like a dream and sounds excellent. There was a minor issue with the bridge pickup when it arrived - the covered JB was slightly microphonic, but after removing the unpotted cover (and finding a labeled zebra duncan underneath) the issue was resolved. The guitar looks cooler now, too.

Not bad for around $800 shipped.

Email Ishibashi to order - they have fluent English-speaking staff that will handle your order.

One thing to note - like many Japanese retailers, Ishibashi does not warehouse an inventory, meaning that every order goes through them direct to the manufacturer. The guitars are then sent by ESP (or Ibanez, or whoever) to Ishibashi for a once-over and then from Ishibashi to the customer. Sometimes the manufacturer may not have a particular item in stock, so you may have to wait for them to make more. This was the case with my LP Custom. Once Ishibashi got it from ESP, they shipped it that day. I was informed of the shipment on a Thursday afternoon and received the guitar at my door at 10:00am Saturday morning.

That's really quick, I got a guitar from Maine that took 11 days:eyecrazy:
I really wanna get an edwards some time in the future.

Re: Edwards

I used to own an Edwards Les Paul Custom. I replaced the JB in the bridge with a Duncan Distortion and it ripped. Hands down the best guitar I've ever owned. I had friends who played Gibson's who loved it. I even had a buddy who owned a PRS Navarro that wouldn't put down my guitar when he picked it up. The ebony boards on the LPC copies are to die for.

The only reason I sold it was to fund my new car.

Excellent guitar at any price especially when you can find them used for ~$700 and new for ~$800 shipped from Japan.
