Edwards?

I keeping seeing mention of Edwards and ESP almost in the same breath, are they made in the same shop? If so, how do they compare to say a standard Eclipse?

Re: Edwards?

Yes edwards is brand that esp makes. They are all made in same shop as the esp from Japan I think, not sure about it but I know they are made in Japan. Edwards guitar are of very good quality, easily beating or meeting the standard of Gibson standards. I don't know much about eclipses, but edwards have the exact Gibson Les Paul shape because they don't need to deal with copyright laws with gibson. Check out the review that Me, JeffB, and XSSIVE have put learn more about our Edwards we had.

Re: Edwards?

they are made in the same shop. edwards are not meant to be distributed overseas where there are laws for trademarked guitars. its esp's take on all classic shaped guitars such as strat, tele, lp etc. of course, there are the signature series too.

it is known that edwards are a step below esp in brand but i found them to be on par built-wise with an esp. but who knows maybe the quality of wood used is different? but i am sure the premium that goes into an esp guitar are paying the guitar designers and r&d. not so for edwards since they are mostly clones.

in regards to sub brand guitars such as squier, epi etc, edwards are a long shot ahead in terms of consistency in quality and tone.

just my .02.

Re: Edwards?

I had an Edwards SG for a time. It did not compare to the Gibsons I have owned. If you are looking for a Paul, consider Edwards....If you want an SG, look elsewhere.

Re: Edwards?

Over in the Music Zoo here in NY they had a Les Paul , finshed in just oil, a gap in the bookmatched top that used to be filled with filler, and a blank headstock. It looked like a refinished Gibson, but a poor quality one, like a Norlin era one. It turned out it was an 80's ESP Les Paul Copy that was originally hot pink but the prior owner stripped the finish recently and oiled it.

It was a good Les Paul copy, though the gap in the top bothered me

Re: Edwards?

From the ESP Forum.

"2006 Signature Series
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESP has 3 factories, including the Custom Shop. These factories manufacture ESP instruments exclusively, and do not build for any other manufacturer. All 3 are owned and operated by ESP.

Only custom ordered guitars are made at the Custom Shop. ESP Custom Series, ESP Signature Series and ESP Standards are made at the second and third factories.

The relatively small ESP Custom Shop does not have the capacity to meet the increased demand for 2006 Signature Series instruments, while still being capable of delivering the custom ordered guitars within an acceptable timeframe. Although Signature Series and Custom Series instruments are made outside the Custom Shop at another ESP facility, they remain the premier product lines sold by ESP and their quality remains unchanged.

Re: Edwards?

So from what i'm hearing, the quality of an edwards is somewhere between an ESP and a LTD? I really like the ESP Eclipse 2 VTB, and would have grabed one but ESP raised the price this year from $1400. to $1700. Seems like a big increase in just one year. Considering some of these now $1700. guitars where produced in 2005!

ESP, Edwards and LTD overlap with models. Edwards has high end models that sit along side ESP, and low end, that sit with the LTDs.

Used dude, USED!

Re: Edwards?

This is just my guess about how it works out...

Grassroots = up to 200 level LTDs (they're mainly bolt-ons)
Edwards = 400 level and above
