That's basically it, can it work, or is it a different type of signal ? Can I plug in my EFX loop out to pro-tool and capture my Laney tone ???
it'll probably produce sound, but most likely won't be good sound. the output section of your amp, which you'd be bypassing, and the speakers, which you would also be bypassing, contribute to your overall guitar sound just as much as the guitar or the preamp section of your amp.
if you try it, try and get your hand on a speaker simulator of sorts.
or even better, since you've already got protools, snag an SM57 and throw it in front of your amp.
Well, Gillmore recorded his "Another Brick in the Wall" solo by pluging in straight in to the board. Engl tube-rack-preamp has a line out for precisely that, recording straight into the amp, my friend who has the pro-tools set up at home probobly has bunch of "virtual" speaker simulators, i am just worried that EFX loop out is different type of signal than "line out," what do you guys think ????
the point i was trying to make with my previous post was that if you want to capture the tone of your amp that you hear out of the speakers, you're best off using a mic in front of your amp to get that tone. recording direct will work, and the results can be good or bad depending on what equipment you have. but the recorded tone you get will sound more like your amp's tone if you mic it.
my $.02.
well yeah, but although it is a significant array of software, midifiles, condenser mikes, regular mikes, and a full protools set up, it is still in a house inside the burbs, I don't think I will have enough time to tweak my half stack before SWAT team goes through the door, that's why I am wondering about the whole EFX loop in to the board thing.
just remember to still have a speaker load connected to your head while it's on.
Interesting, why ??? what would happen if I don't ???
I think it would work best if you went from the FX loop out into a DI box, into the mixer. Honestly, I've never tried it, but I've thought about it.
The problem is that your power amp and speakers are still running. It'd be interesting to try this when recording, in addition to a mic'd cab.
Honestly, I have a hard time believing Gilmour would go with a direct tone ove a mic'd amp.
Yeah, its a 4 tube pre amp and 2 tube power amp, but why ? the signal will not get to the power stage, out of the pre-amp into the pro-tools. Thanks ahead.
