I wonder why nobody has suggested Marshall Vintage Modern. It goes a little above your budget, from Thomann it's 1300 €, so if you save up a little, you get a classic Marshall tone with KT66 tubes, which provide some warmness, and it has two gain ranges, mid boost, separate gain controls for highs and lows (copying the plexi in a way), with little boosting it will give higher gain, like all old Marshalls, you need to push it for more metal-like high gain (I don't mean death metal only).And so did just about everyone in the golden era of Marshalls, from late 60's to 80's. It goes a bit above your budget, but I think it's worth it.
