EL34/6L6/KT88 vs. 6v6/EL84 etc...

Ladies & Germs,
Greetings & good day. I have noticed that my ear tends to enjoy the sound of "larger" power tubes (like 6L6's, KT88's & EL34's), rather than their smaller counterparts (for EG: 6V6's & EL84's). That said, I have an amp with 6V6's & an amp with el84's, but I just tend to dig on the first group a bit more.
Is my 'preference' simply coincedence, or does the physical size of the tube change the character of the tone?
Just thought I would posit, as I'm not schooled enough to say...any assistance would be highly appreciated.

6V6's are similar in tone to 6l6's but they have a bit more mid sparkle and breakup much sooner.

I guess you prefer a tight, higher headroom tube and would rather sacrifice smoother distortion for the more pronounced big tubes
