EL84 Valveking ;) -pics-

Man, I'm having a crazy week! Waiting on two Joelap modded pedals, picked up a Fender Showmaster for peanuts, and got this puppy! :smokin:

Two EL84 power tubes, 3 12AX7 preamp tubes, rated at 25 watts, though that sounds pretty conservative. Two channel preamp with a push/pull gain boost(wish it was accessable via footswitch) and a nice Accutronics rever tank, that's very usable. To put it short, the cleans are warmer than the VK112, and the gain is much more usable, and covers much more ground, although the stock speaker is a little harsh, which is an easy fix. The only issue I have with it is it's just as heavy as the Valveking, but I don't know if it's loud enough for band practice, so it's kinda' redundant to keep it as a practice amp.

Looked it up in the "news" section on the Peavey website. Sounds like a great little practice/recording amp. Class A, 5 watts, 1 el84 tube, 8 inch speaker. I suppose they are trying to compete with epiphones valve special series. I have a valveking 112 and I can't complain about it. For the money, its a nice amp. When do we get a review???? or better yet, sound clips....

I'd like to see the blueprint for that amp... I'm thinking about building something identical.

1 EL84, class A, 8inch speaker...

How would you compare it to the Peavey Bravo through the same speaker?

Re: EL84 Valveking ;) -pics-

Bigal - if only you knew what I actually paid for all this stuff ;) If you really want to know, PM me. :D

Edit - I dunno' if I came off as unclear, but this is a '91 Peavey Bravo 112, two EL84's, three 12AX7's, two channels, Clean and Ultra, footswitchable reverb, 25 watts. There seems to be a cult following for these things. I guess the thread title was misleading. I merely meant that this, to me, was the equivalent of an EL84 Valveking, seem control layout, sans texture knob, just different power tubes. The cleans are DEFINITELY miles ahead of the Valveking, they have a depth and warmth to them that makes this a contender in the cleans department. The gain is GREAT for lower gain to 80's rock applications. I find that while the hi gain tones are great, they have a little too much midrange honk for my tastes, and the stock speaker is absolute trash.

JP1m - PM sent bro.

Ohh I see..
I played both the Bravo and the Valveking. When I first played the bravo through the stock speaker it sounded like total crap, very buzzy solid state sound. But then I heared it through a 1x12 cab with a celestion and the distortion was awsome...
The valveking I only got to try with the stock speaker and it didn't sound good, maybe it's better too with a different cab so I can't really compare the two.

Re: EL84 Valveking ;) -pics-

What ohm rating is the speaker? Does it have different ohm outs in the back or an ohm switch?

Re: EL84 Valveking ;) -pics-

the speaker is an 8 ohm Blue Marvel, and it's got a 25 watt 8 ohm and 4 ohm out, labeled as Main and Aux., respectively.

Re: EL84 Valveking ;) -pics-

those blue marvels are harsh as hell, even the 15" in the delta blues is terribly harsh, but that thing has incredible low end!
