Despite the active & passive difference, which one would sound better in a Gibson Les Paul Studio Vintage Mahogany? I'd like to hear your guy's opinions.

Iommis. besides looking classic and clean, they sound incredible in lps, and you wont need batteries.

what styles do you play, what amp do you use?

EMG-81 hands down. Not only will it kill when played distorted, it'll be cleaner
when played without distortion when compared to the Iommi. The Iommi
sounds kind of muddy and very compressed. I vote for the EMG-81 with the 18volt mod.

Re: EMG 81 vs Tony Iommi pickup

by adding enough power though the pus anyone can drown their mistakes. Never has the Iommi sounded thin, or muddy. Its definilty a pu that needs to be matched to a well tuned amp. Not a "mesa with metal zone with a milion volt active pickup because that would be cool"

Although i dont like them for your playing those bands Id suggest the emg's, but tey the iommi if you can, also look at the livewires from sd (dave mustaine has a set now or somthing)
