Could the 89 be a nice bridge pup for a alder jackson. I'm looking for metal and i really want an aggresive active tone. I'm really curious about EMG's, but they only sell 89's at my shop. So would it have alot of harmonics etc. METAL STYLE not versatile. My other guitar is versatile. OOO and just so you know i have an invader in the bridge now so if you think i should stick with invader just tell me. It's just I really love pinchs etc. in my solos and stuff and the invader isnt giving me those nice harmonics unless i turn it up real loud, so i want to expeiriment and my mind is young so tell me!

I dont think an 89 is what you want, it's an 85 with extra versitility due to the coil tap option.

And the 89 isn't that agressive, altho I love it.

I'd suggest an 81, the end all metal pickup. And if you need a neck pickup... get a 60.

Just because the local shop don't have it doesn't mean you can't order online.


The only thing I don't like about the 81 is, its got a very 80's super thin shredd tone.

Not my thing, But if it's your thing, it should work great. (I own both, i should know, hell, I practicaly own EMG's entire humbucker lineup :P)

Ya i wish I could order online but im like an ex pat in jakarta and you cant order in from america my company wont allow it but thanks.

Go for the 81 if you wnat pure Metal without variety. The 89 is more PAFish and not so aggressive,but the SA in Coiltap mode can give you some nice shredding tone.

Ipersonally LOVE the 89 in the bridge, much more than teh 81.. the 81 is higher output but lacks "thump" to me, the 89 on the other hand with it´s PAFish character delivers that bottom end push without losing too much of the highs or sounding nasal... coil splitting is just an added plus IMO.

Depends on what exactly you´re looking for, but if you´re looking for a bit of a brighter tone than the Invadrer the 85 or 89 could work well ;)
