EMG 89R in Bridge and Neck

I have a Parker Nitefly M , all mahogany guitar.
I am trying to make it more versatile as its my main guitar.

I am trying to come close to realistic strat clean tones but also keep the rock tones intact.

How would the EMG 89R in both positions affect the dual coil tones.
With the single coil nearer to the neck in both positions i am hoping to come close to the strat neck and strat neck/middle tones.
BUt how would the reverse design affect the dual coil tones. I dont want to sacrifice traditional hi gain tones in dual coil mode in both positions.

just wondering.......
thanks

when i used a 89 i didnt really notice any drastic difference in the orientation of it in full dual coil mode, more in split mode to be honest is where you can hear the differences.

Re: EMG 89R in Bridge and Neck

I don't think it makes a difference in dual-coil mode, either.

Cool. What do u guys think of the 89 itself ? Some people say its EMG's nicest pickup, warmer.
Hope it also has the crazy pinch harmonics :)

Re: EMG 89R in Bridge and Neck

It does make a difference>

I had the 89R in the bridge of my Luke and it was def better than the 89.

The split coil was moved slightly further away from bridge and it was much more usable in split mode.

Highly recommended

Re: EMG 89R in Bridge and Neck

With an 89R in both positions, cud i get close to a neck/middle start sound ?
Also, how do u feel about the humbucker mode on hi gain, is it really close to an 85 ?
BTW, i am looking in the X series, more headroom and less "sterile" i have read....
Lets see....

Re: EMG 89R in Bridge and Neck

I do find a difference between the 85 and 89, despite what EMG say.

The 89 is a bit brighter.

My Luke was HSS and the 89R def gave a better pos 2 quack than either the 89 or the 85... I tried all three because it came with an 85 and pos 2 was useless.
Next I tried the 89 and still wasn't happy so I contacted EMG.
They told me about the 89R as I'd never heard of it.

I got one and loved it right until I sold the guitar ( couldn't get on with the neck shape and low frets )

Re: EMG 89R in Bridge and Neck

I've never compared the 85 and the 89(R) head-to-head. I have the 85 in the bridge, the 89R in the neck, and I'm pretty happy with them except for thinking that the 85 is sometimes a little too warm a bridge pickup for Metallica in that guitar.
