EMG Question

I have a Les Paul and I'm wanting to replace the bridge pup. I'm wanting to know if you can put an EMG-81 in the bridge position but still keep the stock passive neck pup. Because I don't have a need for an active neck pup. OR if one was to go active, both pups have to be there. And if I can, how do you wire the passive neck pup and the EMG-81 together?

THANKS.

Re: EMG Question

yes you can mix actives and passives, but you have to keep in mind that a passive is going to use a 250k+ pot and an EMG needs a 25k pot. The best thing to do is use a 25k pot and use the EMG pa2 to match resistance for the passive.

Re: EMG Question

In a les paul it can be done, but the middle position will sound funky. THis can be alleviated by dropping a line buffer or preamp on the passive side just before the switch, said PA2 is a good solution.

Re: EMG Question

My solution is an expensive one, but I think a passive and an EMG would look funky together. I'm planning on getting a vintage voiced Seth Lover style Paul and a Paul on the Wylde side. Do as you wish, though blending passive/active is a pain and difficult.
