EMG users and connoisseurs I need your help.

Hey guys I have an EMG DG-20 loaded pickguard on my strat, I'm thinking of swapping the bridge single coil pickup with an EMG 81x I have sitting there gathering dust in a drawer. Besides the obvious routing of the pickguard, is there any modification I have to do? Are these models compatible? I would really appreciate your help, even more if you have wiring diagrams and stuff.

Nope. No modding. If you wanna save the trouble of rerouting, just pick up a new HSS pickguard and transfer all the electronics from the old DG20 pickguard and then plug in the 81. Otherwise disconnect the old SA bridge pickup, carve out the hole for your 81x, and make like a Glade Scented Freshener and "Plug it in, plug it in." That's one thing EMG does that I wish more companies did, because soldering is an art and if you haven't mastered it, it's a pain. I've done it before.

Unless you set the -81X fairly low, there will be a considerable volume difference over the -SA pickups.

How extensively do you use the SPC and EXG tone controls? You might not care for the effect that these have on the -81X.

You're right, I'll just get a new pickguard and save the hassle of rerouting. Thanks!

I mess around with them a bit...I usually boost the mids a little.

Can I make a recommendation for the TW version? Its the same as an 81x but coil splittable, and the split is actually really nice so you can still get your bridge single sound. They really do sound great. I'm running one with two SA's in the neck and middle and couldn't be happier.
